"The Crucible Appendix" What Is It Good For?
How does The Crucible "Appendix/Act II Scene 2" that we read
impact your thematic understanding of the drama and its two primary
characters- John and Abigail? Should it be included in each production
or reading of the drama? Why? Defend your position using textual
evidence. Please respond to this blog during class on Friday, November 13th.

The Appendix shows that Abby is a little crazy, saying imprisoned men are beating her etc. It shows that John isn't without morals. I think this could be left out in production because you soon learn that Abby is crazy.
I think that this appendix should be included in all forms of the play. It really helps show the tension between John and Abigail. It solidifies the belief of Elizabeth thinking Abigail is out to replace her by having Abigail herself say it. Abigail will stop at nothing to tarnish Elizabeth and get John while John will stop at nothing to tarnish Abigail and get Elizabeth and this appendix makes it very clear.
The appendix did not impact my thematic understanding too much. I think it does not really matter if it is included or not because it did not change my views or understanding of any of the characters or big ideas in the text.
The appendix reveals how Abigail feels about John Proctor and how she wants him for herself by putting his wife in jail. When Proctor brings that up she tries to act innocent and make Goody Proctor look like the bad guy. I believe this reveals Abigail's reasoning for keeping the lie alive.
I think that the appendix should be included in the theatrical performance. I also think it allows for a bit more understanding of the development on John Proctor and Abigail along with their relationship. This scene helps the reader or audience understand their volatile relationship and helps explain part of the cause for the witch hunts. Abigail wants John Proctor and the only way she sees that happening is if his wife is dead. She also knows that Proctor will not reveal the truth about her, because of the way she can manipulate him. The way she reacts to his accusation and decision also throws him off. The appendix is an important part of the story that should be retained.
The appendix did not change my thematical thinking . All I think differently is that she is either really crazy, or their are ghosts.
The Appendix between Abigail and John added to the tension between the two characters. The interaction between them reflects both sides of the witch trials. Abigail is the accuser and John is the victim of the trials. This interaction shows how both sides of the controversy interact with each other. This scene adds depth to the conflict between Abigail and John, so it would be effective to include it in the production of “The Crucible”, but it is not necessary to the story’s plot. The conflict is already displayed in the first act. Abigail fights with John about her being in love with him still and not willing to abandon his wife for her. So the appendix is not completely necessary to the play.
The Appendix did not impact my thematic understanding of the play and the two characters. It did increase the tension between Abigail and John. I don't think it should be included to the play or reading because it isn't important to the plot and there is already tension between these two characters.
The Appendix between Abigail and John added more tension between the characters. It shows both sides of the witch trials. The Appendix did not impact my thematic understanding of the play and the two characters. It shouldn't be included into the play because there is already tension shown between John and Abigail and it is not important to the overall plot to add more.
It impacted my thematic understanding by the scene and just the whole idea or concept that took place around it. It shouldn't be included in every production of reading or drama because it just wouldn't make any sense to have the same concept or idea in everything. It wouldn't be original and would be just boring
I think the Appendix should be included to the play because it goes more in depth and with the affair John and Abby have. It expresses how john and Abby feel about each other and their affair. It gets heated, but that's what makes the play interesting.
Act 2 shows the relationship between John and Abigail grow as the tension in the play increases. We see how evil Abigail can in order to get John as her own and have Elizabeth get executed for being a witch. John plays a big role in this by being exagerating his truth. They play a key role in discovering the different layers in this play.
I think the appendix really helped me understand everything in a deeper level because the tension between John and Abby is higher. It shows how Abby wants Elizabeth to go to jail so her and John can be together. This is a really big part in the story that should be included in the play. Some disagree but I think it would better help with the understanding
The Appendix made me realize a much deeper meaning in the tension and relationship between John and Abby. Abby wants Elizabeth to go to jail so that she is out of Johns life and then they can actually be together. I think the appendix should be included in the play as it creates a larger range of understanding the story.
I think the appendix was an important factor in understanding more about John and Abby's relationship. Before I wasn't completely sure if they had an affair and it made it very clear. It creates a more visible role dynamic and answers questions that I, myself asked. It shows both sides to the affair and gives more information about the two characters. Also sets up a strong base for understanding why the affair is important towards the end of the crucible, in the court room.
The appendix added more mystery and created more questions to ask. But it also showed the relationship that John and Abby had was more deeper for each other. Their affair also showed the characters true self and personality in that time.
I think that this appendix is a very important part of the story and in understanding the characters better. I think that this part should be included in the production as well as the text because, in this little scene, Abigail seems to want to try to ruin everything if she doesn't have John and that could be very important in later texts.
The Appendix shows that Abby is a little crazy, saying imprisoned men are beating her. It shows that John isn't without morals. Yet I think it is need it really shows two of the characters true sides and gives one a little better light and the other a very negative light.
