I think it is true because if we just said "Hey, let's stop slavery" but we never do anything to actually help like making or donating the organization that are helping people that is actually a slave. It wouldn't make sense or help them much. Slavery is not going to be gone by itself and we should try to deal with it and try to fix all the problems that they have to make the world better.
The failed emancipation was "progress" (but not really) without work. We must actually put work in to help these people instead of making them second rate citizens. We must give them the tools they need to succeed. We need to take this strange feeling of power away from human trafficking.
Well, I believe that the connection between the two is that, when Fredrick Douglas talks about, no struggle, no progress, it's tying in to what is happening right now in slavery. It's showing that, if we do something, no matter the struggles of how we do it, we may be able to get all those slaves free. The TED talk, explained it great, by giving example on what Americans spend their money on and how much of it they spend, and with all that money, we can put it together and try and figure out a way to save those innocent people who are in slavery.
I think that the quote, "If there is no struggle, there is no progress.", is actually very powerful. To me it says that if you are not struggling than you have not done very much work and that you haven't pushed yourself like the slaveholder would want you too. If the slaveholder saw you not working very hard and not struggling then I think he would give you an even worse job that is going to make you struggle a lot more. The quote, "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.", means to me that power does not allow anything without being demanded of what to do. I think these quotes meant something to the TED talk we had watched by showing that slaves our powerful people and are capable of a lot of things and we should not be holding them back from something great that they could possibly achieve.
I agree with this quotes. Most the first quote. That quote is probably one of the realest things I have seen. It goes along with everyday things. For example, school can be really hard and make kids struggle but it's progress. In years they will feel smarter and have a better knowledge of how the world works. What I got from the TED talk is that if we want to change the way slavery is then it's going to be a really really really big struggle but it's progress in reducing the amount of slavery and every hardship that comes with it. It's gunna take progress getting 27 million people free. It will be a struggle but nothing in life worth something is easy to accomplish.

I think that from the quotation "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will". This can mean many different things coming from many different opinions. To me it means if you want something and or want power over it. You need a demand or you need to take action for that power. And it relates so much to the Briles ted talk because his whole point of his presentation was that slavery is such a bad and horrible thing yet people still continue to do it. And the only to way to stop it and or to stop slavery is for us to take action and or do something about it. To have a demand, otherwise if we don't do anything and or nothing is done then slavery will still continue, ruin people's lives and grow to an even higher rate. Taking action and having a demand means everything, without action and or a demand you won't get what you want.
I agree with Fredrick Douglas and his quote because without struggle and pain you can't have success because when you work hard for something struggle and pain are bi products of that system and you must work hard to progress into that next era. Slavery is a problem but we need to put in work to try and find a way to limit the victims that fall into this tough time and we must try and find a way out of this problem.
The first quote can be related to the Ted talk in a sense that slavery will be very difficult to end but it is possible. If the work and money and time and effort is put in towards ending slavery we will see exponential progress. The second quote could be interpreted to mean that power only exists when the people claiming to have it have others who listen to them. It could relate to the Ted talk in a way that without slave owners using dishonest labor that they wouldn't have their power that they've grown accustomed to which us the reason it is still an issue in today's world.
I think that the second quote connects directly with the Briles TED Talk video. He asked multiple times, "Are we willing to live in a world with slavery?" He talked about how we all have the power to change things. Frederick Douglass says that our power to do things does nothing unless there is a demand for it. This ted talk proved it. There is a demand for change, therefore we all need to put our power together to make this change happen, and happen now. Of course there will be set backs, but that still means that there is progress being made. This is what Douglass was saying with his first quote, and what the ted talk was explaining with the fact that it will take 10.8 billion dollars to not only free slaves, but keep them free.
I feel like what the man on TED was saying is that, it's not worth it to pay for these people to be free from being enslaved. If I could raise the money for sown thing I cared about that much as much as this man does, I would spend it in a heart beat. They have been Struggling their whole lives why keep them struggling when some of them may die soon? If we demand to set them free, realistically what is going to happen? They are not just going to release them, especially for free. They can also get them back if they do sell them, or if they for some reason do give them up. It's horrible that it is so hard to end this, but we are not doing enough.
After watching Briles TED talk and looking at the Frederick Douglass quotes I am now amazed how slavery has continued steadily over that past 300 years. I think the fact that families and young women are tricked into slavery by job offers is very evil and deceitful. People are targeting the vulnerable with the promising hope of a job and a steady cash flow while in reality they are getting tricked into being enslaved for the rest of their lives with no way out. Overall slavery is a very serious and important issue that we need to educate everyone about.
I agree with both the quotations and the TED Talk, I feel like the is always a downhill before you can go back up. Also, it is a lot easier to see and to appreciate all the progress, when you've gone through some struggles. I was very thrown off when he explained and elaborated on all that we do in America with 10.8 billion, and then explained that's what it'd take to get all of those people out of slavery. It made me reflect on what I could be doing to help, and what I'm doing instead. It made me realize that there is so much more going on in the world, so much of it that we don't even hear about.
The quotes by Frederick Douglass connect well with the TED talk video because it compares how someone got out of slavery years ago in America and people that are inslaved in the present. The first quote expresses the feelings going on in order to truly free the slaves. It is a struggle in order to reach an acomplishment, but the struggle on the way to get to complete freedom is progress because it is coming closer to stopping it.
Fredrick Douglas' quote "if there is no struggle, there is no progress." I interpret it as him saying that nothing comes easy, you have to work for it. If you don't work hard to make a difference then nothing will change or progress. With his other quote, "power concedes nothing without demand. It never did and it never will." How I understand this is that unless you can get several people involved in something, you won't have any power to change anything. Like in TED talk he was talking about how it would cost around $10.8 billion dollars to free the 27 million slaves and we end up spending that much on technology or other luxuries we don't need. As a global income $10.8 billion dollars is not a lot of money and we spend it for the benefit of ourselves.
I hope that the struggle to end slavery will be over soon. I hope that we won't have to even hear of the word slavery because it is something that every human wants to end. The guy in the TED talk was very optimistic and hopeful that we can end slavery with our intellectual power and motivation. I agree with his opinion and I believe it will be a struggle to end slavery but it isn't impossible.
I think the second quote explains how without demand we don't need slavery. Without demand of products and supplies then there will be no need for slaves to get them. I don't think slavery will ever fully end but I believe the more people are aware the end to a lot of slavery will happen. If know one is aware of it then how can it get solved. I think that it's great with all these ted talks because no one is really aware of it and it going on.
The Ted talks relate to Fredrick Douglass quote "If there is no struggle there is no progress" because both express how awful slavery is and how hard it is to change so there isn't such thing as slavery. To work towards progress in changing the government to go against slavey, there have to be people experiencing slavery.
"If there is no struggle, there is no progress." this quote specifically related to me because that's how I go about my life almost every day. No one can progress without going out of there comfort zone, trying to learn new things. Failing is the best teacher, it teaches you what you did wrong, what not to do again. Progressing is never easy and you will always struggle. For Fredrick Douglas, he struggled incredibly hard to teach himself how to read but eventually he did it. Struggling means progress.

I agree with both quotations and relate to the first quotation because I have experienced having to deal with a bad experience to reach a good outcome, not to the degree of Fredrick Douglas but connecting it to my life, he is an inspiration. Without work there will be no success. The way that he got himself out of an incredibly hard time and spread his word is enough too support it.
Both the quotes tie into each other and they both tie into the TED talk. If no one struggles to stop the system of slavery, or if no one challenges those who lead slavery systems, then it will remain unchanged. So in general, if no one tries, nothing will happen. The same is with life in all, if we just make slavery a priority, then it will go away. Not that simply but it's still the same idea.
