Frederick Douglass, A TED Talk, And Perception?
How does the TED Talk video by Lisa Kristine relate to Frederick Douglass and the message of his narrative that we are reading? How does this make you reconsider how you think about a certain person or group? Through this reading and viewing experience, have you started to perceive or feel differently? This blog response is due by Wednesday, February 24th at 2:30p.m.

Slavery has not yet been eradicated. The horrors Douglas experienced are not yet dead. 27 million people are currently enslaved. Bought and sold for as little as $18. Denver is a hub for sex trafficking, often men dressed in ritzy brands telling women they are beautiful enough to model, tricking them and taking them from their family. Pain and spiritual scars little the minds of the 27 million people enslaved.
Slavery will probably never be ended. It hasn't yet and some crazy things will have to happen for it to stop.I have always felt the same about slavery in the way that it is terrible and shouldn't exist. My feeling didn't change but just made it stronger.

It's showing that slavery has not ended at all. It may have ended here in America, but it's still happening around the world. There are kids being taken from their families, their are people still being mistreated and abused. The sad thing about this is the fact that nobody is doing anything about this. There are people out there who could have a great life ahead of them, but are being dehumanized, by being enslaved.
The video relates to the Frederick Douglass narrative because they both send a similar message. They both want to end slavery. Slavery is still a big issue and it will not be easy to eradicate but if everyone can contribute there would be a good result. This video and narrative makes me re-consider the people who own the slaves. Why do people think they can use someone's life only to benefit themselves? I think these people are monsters and should be punished for what they've done. I still perceive this issue as I have since I first learned about slavery. Until it is gone, my opinion will remain the same.
I think that this Ted talk relates to Fredrick Douglas' story because they both show how horrid slavery is. Also they both show how slavery is still around and abundant. The Ted talk said a whopping 27 million people are enslaved which is a very high number. Overall slavery is a relatively unknown problem in the world which is why more people need to educate themselves on the topic
The amount of random chores that the slave have to get through on a day to day basis is so hard to see. It makes me sad that people just like us are having to do so much work for not even the amount of money we would get paid for something like that. I believe that you shouldn't be allowed to even own slaves and shouldn't be able to abuse people the way they do. Young people should not be having to watch this happen or even be around this type of stuff. The young children should be living their life in freedom rather than be held captive. I don't think slavery will ever be truly gone because it's such a "needed" thing to some people.
The message in the Ted Talk by Lisa Kristine and An American slave relates because they both show how it continues all throughout the world. Both messages describe how awful it is to be a slave following all the mental and physical abuse that comes with it. Leaning about slavery, I have become more open minded to really take the time to listen to what others say, it feels good to know what it is like to be respected.
Not only are both Kristine and Douglass shining a light on the big picture idea of slavery and how it is truly awful, but showing us everything these people have to go through. They both put us into the stories of the slaves. These stories, especially the ted talk, show that slavery and they way these people are being treated is still a very big issue, and always has been. I have had my eyes opened to the fact that these issues are going on with people all across the globe, and that not much is being done about it.
This relates to Fredrick Douglass, because it shows a little bit of what he had to go through. This is world wide, and no much is being done about it. It makes me realize what we can do, but what we are not doing.
This relates to Fredrick Douglass because it relates to the same idea and concept of slavery and what we are reading. It opens your eyes and makes you realize that what is happening is really bad and the life that they have to do is not right at all by any means. I think this Ted talks makes us dig deeper into what we are reading and makes us think about it so much more and we realize so much more about it than we used to before
Both bring the attention of slavery to the audience. It helps everyone to recognize what is going on outside of our bubbles and for me made me feel dumb for being unaware. And looking at groups of people it teaches me to be more caution of my judgements. In our generation there are many terms that are used that are inappropriate and still degrading I think it sheds a light on what some people choose to say and helps people see that it is offensive in every context.
It makes me feel even more sad with the slavery because a little kid got to work without getting paid and also got starved and taken care less than a kid that is not being held by the other people. It's the sad truth. She explains it all of her feelings and I wish we could help them getting out from that bad life.
This relates to Fredrick Douglass by showing us how slavery was a big problem 700+ years ago and still is an on going problem today.
This relates to Fredrick Douglas by explaining to how slavery was a huge problem and how it is currently. Growing up you are taught that slaveryw as ended by Abraham Lincoln but the reality is that it's almost a bigger issuer then it was a while ago but the only difference it's not as prevalent as it was in America. Slavery is still happening in America but it is right under our noses so we don't see the effect of it. I really would like to put an end to slavery for once and all.
The video reminds me that there will always be slavery in the world and that there will always be those who try to help others out of it and try to make the idea of slavery something we all see as horrible and something we never continue. The video hasn't changed how I view any group really, I'd like to think that I already knew about the various sources of slavery in the world and that this video didn't change much. The reading has shown me that some owners were also afraid of their slaves sometimes.
This TED talk relates to the text we are reading by putting it out there how big of a problem and how much of a tragedy slavery is and was. I feel like many forget that slavery is a thing because we were taught that it had ended but both of these sources help us see how often and how easy it is to overlook and forget about slavery and the fact that it is indeed a thing.
The TED talk really only talks about what is going on in the world wich is what Dugless was doing as well but his was on a personal level a level of what had been done to him and what he had seen threw his life. While the ted talk lady went out searching for it looking for cases and trying to exspose them to the world. It dose not make me consider the world or anything diffrently beacuse there will always be evil and no matter what we do we will not be able to end that.
