Inspired?
"All my life I had been looking for
something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was.
I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction
and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and
asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could
answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my
expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been
born with: That I am nobody but myself.”
--Ralph Ellison, From Invisible Man

The quote by Ralph Ellison relates to the world in a myriad of ways. Every person you meet probably has at least one belief that they hold to be the truest thing that they know; and they may try to convince you of the same thing. Whether it’s a religious opinion or something completely unrelated, they might try to make you believe some of the same things. They could be one of two types of people; those who try to give you a new perspective by providing their opinion, or those who try to make you believe what they are saying is set in stone and there is no other way. People need to be true to themselves and their beliefs and it will lead them to achieving their dreams and will lead to true happiness. I believe that this man's quote is very inspirational in regards to the fact that people need to be true to themselves to be truly happy.
The Inspired Bicycles video shows a man that loves to just ride and do different tricks and jumps. He goes out everyday just living the life he wants to live. We need to live the life we want to live and let no one tell us who we should be in this world. Once in that guys life he was not good at riding bicycles. We weren't always great at what we love to do. We worked hard to be great in what we love to do. We can be anything in the world and need to block out the negatives and society. Our dreams are our dreams no one can alter those dreams but ourselves. Go live the life you want to live and work hard at what you do best and in-cooperate that into your life everyday.
Passion. It’s a big word that can mean a lot. Finding something to be passionate about it a very important thing in life. Finding yourself through things that you have developed a relationship with. An activity, a person, an animal, an idea, or an object are things that can create passionate behaviors. The text and the video both encourage passion. The quote tells readers how they can improve themselves, and the only way to do it is through yourself not other people. The video shows an athlete who has created a career out of his passion. He has made his life great by doing something he enjoys. Both encourage passion, and how everyone should find something they’re passionate about. I can relate to these pieces of literature because I have found something I am passionate about; music. I would enjoy living my life full of music. Once you have found something you’re passionate about, you never want to stop pursuing that thing.
In my life I look for new ways that I can improve myself. I am always trying to learn something new because I know that I might grasp on to that new thing and embrace it. Finding your passions in life is important to me because I can have more joy in my life by doing things I love, with people that have similar interests as me. Also in a work environment, I would always rather work for something that I am passionate about and get payed less, rather than something I don't desire and get payed significantly more. I think of money as a tool rather than a possession. I mean that money should be used to provide not to pleasure, so that money doesn't take over your life and passions. Plus worrying about money takes you away from the most simple, but best moments in life.
Although I am only a teenager who has yet to experience independency and true freedom, at this point in my life I know who I am. I may change but I know that I am me. I believe that as a teenager it is the time in which everyone looks for who they are. we try different things and join different groups until we find what we think we are looking for. Experience and adventure is what makes us who we are because we find out what we do and don't like. A big part of finding yourself is getting indulged into something that you're passionate towards. For me I found art to be something that I absolutely love. I want it to be a part of my life and hopefully career.
After watching the video and reading Ralph Ellison's quote, I think I can take a way that everybody needs to find themself and they need to do something they love. The man from the video had a passion for bike riding, this doesn't mean that he was good at riding bikes his whole life, at one time he was probably not that good, but he wanted to get better and he eventually fell in love with doing it, he finds himself when he is riding bikes. The passion the man from the video has for riding bikes is something that I believe everybody should have for something in there life and if someone is doing something where they find themselves hating what they do they need to change that because you will never “find yourself” doing something you don’t have a passion for.
The Inspired Bicycles: Way Back Home presentation and the Ralph Ellison quote display the idea that one should explore oneself and pursue one's passion and dream. Everyone should live "deliberately" and do this by pursuing one's passions and dreams. Pursuing passions make work more desirable. Examples of others pursuing something they believe in is motivating to me and others in the way that they cause me and others to hope to perform in my passion as these examples depict. I realize that passions and dreams are not unrealistic to achieve and can be inspiring and motivating to others.
The video is showing a man having fun, going around the world and doing something he loves. One’s perspective on life is influenced on how they are brought up. It is important to pursue a career you are passionate about to achieve success in that path. Ralph Elliot’s quote on how people were contradicting his questions shows how the only person who could bring you to happiness is yourself. If the world wasn’t dependent on money, I bet everyone would be pursuing the career they are passionate about rather than pursuing a career that pays a lot.
After watching the Way Back Home video, and the Ralph Ellison quote, they both have things in common. I think that the biggest point that is common between the two, is that they are both conveying the same message. The message to life your life to the fullest, or take advantage of all our opportunities, because you will never know when it could all be taken from you. In both examples, they convey this message by sharing their passion with others. I think this is a cool and effective way to convey a message, because it is different they say just reading a motivational article. After all I think that Way Back Home and the Ralph Ellison quote convey the same message but in two different ways.
The world is a place that has multiple diversities and this quote and video inspires me to stop caring about what people think and you just try to be the best version of myself. The whole meaning in life is doing what makes you passionate or what makes you happy. They make me think that I perhaps haven’t discovered my true passion yet. The teacher was a student once in his life and I still have my whole life ahead of me. The question here is who am I? I'm afraid that I can't answer that yet because I'm still working on myself, figuring out who I want to be. This video provides me with a new way of thinking. We must live however we want to, in fact, this is our lives and whatever passions you the most is what you should be doing. Trying to become better, trying to live a life inspired and motivated for the future. The quote and the video made me see a connection between our academic goals. We persist in our passions and we should persist trying hard to aim good academic goals.
The biking video and the Ralph Ellison quote relate to my world because A big part of growing up is finding what you're passionate and care about and in my life, I haven't really found that. These texts combine the ideas of finding your passion and perseverance to become better and more successful. In the quote, Ellison says “I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer”. This quote stood out to me because someone else can't tell you who you are or what you are passionate about, you have to find this out yourself to really be happy. I wish to incorporate this into my everyday life by embracing my individuality and looking within to find what I'm passionate about rather than looking out. This mindset paired with determination of the biker can lead to happiness and success.
Based on the video, “Inspired Bikes” and the Ralph Ellison quote, I think that the people should live their lives both purposefully and without regret.
To live your life purposefully, you are consciously making decisions as to what you want to do. You are intentionally setting the path up for yourself, and you do not leave anything important to fate. By doing this, one realizes how in control we are of our own destiny. Often times, people feel their future is set in stone, and as a result decide to live in the moment; resulting in temporary entertainment but no long term yields. If you choose to live deliberately, then what you do is often focused on a long term payout, often through hard work and dedication.
By living without regret, I am referring to choosing to do things you will not regret later in life. If you try to live without anticipated regret, everything you do to make yourself better is motivated by yourself and reinforced not through the mistakes of other but your own. You cannot blame anyone for a state you are in, and instead have only yourself to blame. If all you can blame is yourself, you will most likely work harder towards self improvement instead of wishing that someone hadn’t forced you into a position.
It is important to take responsibility for your actions, both in the future and in the now.
I think that we shouldn't worry about the little things and worry about whats happening in the present and try to find the positives out of all the negatives .I think to live your life purposely you have to make your decisions carefully but in ways that it will benefit from in the future. Also to not let anybody tell you what you can and cant do when it comes to your future. This video and Ralph both have things in common they live their life to the fullest and don't care what others think of them because they are doing what their passionate about.
Based on the video, “Inspired Bikes” and the Ralph Ellison quote, I think that people should just live their lives with a ton of passion and try to live with no regrets. I think that is important to live your life to the best you can. As if life were a competition you need to be competitive each and every day. Go out and win the day! Beat that test you have tomorrow win that class, beat that guy next to you on that test. You have to be passionate in life if you aren't then you aren't loving life to the fullest. If you love bike writing then do it to the best just like that guy. Just win at life that's it!
As a whole, I would describe myself as a very uninspired person. My identity is still very much unknown, and there is not really any skill or activity I can use to identify myself. But there is one thing I have always been attracted to and amazed by, which is the art of film. I had been in a rut most of my childhood, I had never been interested in sports or science, but mainly separated or divided between subjects. One year I though I wanted to be a pilot, one year I was interested in architecture, but back in my brain I was never truly passionate about really anything I did. Until I went to the thing that I really loved, which was films. This is a very difficult profession to get into and I realize that, but this quote reminds me of why I want to make films. It's not for the pursuit of money or fame, but to come together with peers to create something others can enjoy. Even if this doesn't work out as a career, I will be okay just by telling myself that I tried, tried to follow a passion that was true to myself.
