"The Crucible Appendix" What Is It Good For?

How does The Crucible "Appendix/Act II Scene 2" that we read impact your thematic understanding of the drama and its two primary characters- John and Abigail? Should it be included in each production or reading of the drama? Why? Defend your position using textual evidence. Please respond to this blog during class on Monday, December 12th.

The second act in The Crucible changes my thinking because before I was sure that John was innocent and hadn’t committed any crimes, but after act two I am sure that he was guilty. My thinking behind the theme has changed also because it turned the play from being about witchcraft, to being about secrets and hidden information between different characters. I think it should be included in the production because it changes the direction of the play completely. The play used to be about Betty convulsing and getting blamed for witchcraft, but after this act I view the play more as a character-character conflict, rather than character-world.
