My current favorite song is Millionaire by Chris Stapleton. My favorite lyrics are, “ 'Cause love is more precious than gold, It can't be bought, no, and it can't be sold ,I got love enough to spare. That makes me a millionaire” . I love this song for a few reasons. Chris Stapleton is one of the most talented singers out there today, his voice sounds the same live and on record. (Best concert I have ever been to). Also the lyrics he writes the love songs about his wife and they are very happy. He also is a very down to earth celebrity and he writes good songs that are relatable to everyone. This song is so beautiful and it talks about how life is worth so much more than the materialistic things that we collect. Life is about doing things that you love and being surrounded by those who you love and who lvoe you.

Don't put your life in someone's hands
They bound to steal it away
Don't hide your mistakes
'Cause they'll find you, burn you
-Get Out Alive, Three Days Grace

This quote makes me think about not letting other people's decisions affect me. I am in control of where my life goes, and I'm also in control with how I let my mistakes affect me. Stay truthful to yourself, and be the best person you can be.

In the motions, and the things that you say,
It all will fall, fall right into place.
As fruit drops, the flesh it sags,
Everything will fall right into place.
When we die, some sink and some lay,
But at least I, won't see you float away.
On spillt milk, sex and weight,
It all will fall, fall right into place.
-Modest Mouse, Gravity Rides Everything.

I hope I can be pardoned the word "Sex" as it makes a mature point about the way we misapply value in a way that can prove ultimately harmful. Gravity Rides Everything is the second song in "The Moon and Antarctica" an album about melancholy and the mundane. The first song in the album "3rd Planet" sets the tone by telling a story about loss and nostalgia for times long gone. GRE follows this up with an ultimately happy message about things eventually working out. GRE asks us to think about the fleeting nature of the things we assign emotional value to as they all fall away from us. In the end however, the constantly repeated line, "Everything will fall into place" Death, a recurrent theme across the album comes up here, when the singer says "When we die, some sink and some lay, but at least I, won't see you float away." Death here is a reminder, that there will be a point in which everything has worked out. It also serves as another point upon the fleeting nature of sadness. That even the most intense of emotions will drift away eventually, and we can only hope to be at rest before we lose who we love. It is nihilistic and depressing, yet also hopeful and understanding, a perfect microcosm of not just the song but the album.

A song I like which certainly includes a connection to the past is the Epitaph of Seikilos. The lyrics, because it is short, are:
While you live, shine
have no grief at all
life exists only for a short while
and time demands an end.

This song is interesting to me because it is the oldest surviving (complete) musical composition in the world, written around the first century A.D. and found on a tombstone in the Greek city of Tralles. It was likely written by Seikilos to his wife when she died. Despite this, the song illustrates a theme which humans will always relate to; the seemingly short period of time that we live for and the inhibition which we experience while living. The poetry term I see most used in this poem is personification. Though humans cannot physically “shine” and time cannot “demand,” we can imagine what that means in actions which we actually experience. In this case, that would include letting go of inhibitions (which is difficult) and dealing with the inevitable end of life.

My favorite song currently is "Life Changes" by Thomas Rhett. I think this is a great song because it describes how life can change and how important it is to just go with the flow. "You can't stop it... you never know what's gonna happen." I think this song proves a great lesson and is very relatable in a way even though it describes him becoming famous. Life doesn't always stay the same and tomorrow will be different than today. I think this song also is saying how necessary it is to live in the moment as you don't always know how different tomorrow will be or what will change. The messages behind this song are very valuable and influential and that's why I love the song.

The song "Vacation" by Thomas Rhett is a great song in my opinion of how to live your life with no regrets. The whole music video is footage of him and his wife and family on vacation jumping out of planes and surfing, and just living their lives to the fullest. The lyrics "Singing hey, let’s party like we on vacation Hey, let’s party like we on vacation," I think are great lyrics that exhibit that you should always look for the fun in everything. Life is short and you want to enjoy every part of it and experience things that you never have before. This song as well as its music video is amazing at showing that the experiences in life is what matters, not the materialistic items, it's about surrounding yourself around people who you love and love you, and living and going through life's journey with them by your side.

The song "Ballad of the Green Beret" by Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler and Robin Moore is a song about the sacrifices made by the Army green berets and the family that supports them. The lyrics "He has died for those oppressed, Leaving her his last request, Put silver wings on my son's chest, Make him one of America's best" talk about keeping the legacy of the Green Berets alive by having his son follow in his footsteps and make him and his country proud. This is like how some poems talk about what is important in life.

A good and popular song right now is "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. While looking through the lyrics I found this line that had a little rhyme to it."But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own." I think this song is sharing his love between his significant other. He's expressing that he can't be without anyone else but her. I like how some of his songs have a little background and meaning to the lyrics he sings. I think most people like him because of his love songs. I think he's a good singer, and I tend to like some of the songs he does sing.

In the song "Changes" by 2Pac he says "I see no changes wake up in the morning and i ask my self...That's just the way it is, things will never be the same. I think 2pac is expressing how angry he is with the world about how hard it is for him and others like him. This song was released in 1988 and is arguably one of the most influential rap songs of that time. This song relates so well with today's america because in many eyes things have not changed.

One of my favorite song lyrics is “If it’s meant to be, it’ll be,” this song lyric is by Bebe Rexha in the song “Meant to be.” I enjoy this lyric because it makes perfect sense.I believe that everything happens for a reason. Some people try and try to make something workout, whether it is about a relationship or trying to get into a college. And sometimes it does workout and sometimes it doesn’t. The song lyric is perfect for moments like these. “If it’s meant to be, it’ll be.” In relations to poetry, song lyrics are just like poems but with some musical instruments behind them. Song lyrics have meanings that people can relate too. People may relate to the lyric above because they experience something similar.

I chose the song Let Go by Khalid because it demonstrates a good slant rhyme and alliteration. The song says “Leave your sorrow on the table. Pick up your worries and throw them out the window. You don't gotta let your friends know. There's so much trouble to get into. Let's go, let go”The first four lines end with the words table, window, know, and into which all have similar o sounds at the end which can demonstrate slant rhyme or assonance. There is also alliteration with the lines let go and let’s go because they both sound the same.

"Chicken Fired" by Zac Brown Band is a great song to show how music and poems relate. It has a lot of repetition and is written as is most songs in stanzas. I also think that this song relates to the American Dream because it talks about Zac's American dream. The lyrics " A pair of jeans that fit just right, and the radio down." It just part of his American Dream and something he looks forward to all the time. This related to what we are reading because everyone is just stating there "American dream".

One of my favorite song lyrics are "Try to tear us apart but know that we will wear our scars." I believe this song relates to the American dream because even though we as society go through bad things, we have to push through and keep going with our lives.

"I guess this sounds like another sad love song, I can't get over how it all went wrong, But, I let the words come together. Then, maybe I'll feel better" This lyric is interesting to me because it has rhythm and rhyming in it and when I was looking for song lyrics I noticed that quite a few did not have any rhyme scheme but this song "Another Sad Love Song" has a lot of rhyming in it. I also like this lyric because the singer knows there are a lot of love songs out there but this one is unique because it is called another sad love song which makes it intriguing and the listener wants to know if it will be different.

Oh there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
-Ain't no Rest for the Wicked, Cage the Elephant
If people turn down the paths of illegality and "sinfulness" the world starts seeing them as nothing more than that, criminals and sinners. In the world people who have no other options are the ones who turn to crime. Without equality of opportunity the world will only be filled with more and more people with no options, turning to crime and damaging the status quo.

The song “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley exhibits personification in a few lines. “Three little birds perch by my doorstep singing’ sweet songs of melodies pure and true, sayin’ (this is my message to you-ou-ou.” He personifies the birds to say “this is my message to you-ou-ou.” Realistically, birds do not talk to people. This is a literary element.

"Scared of my own image
Scared of my own immaturity
Scared of my own ceiling
Scared I'll die of uncertainty
Fear might be the death of me
Fear leads to anxiety
Don’t know what’s inside of me"
-Doubt, Twenty One Pilots. I chose this song because it is one of my favorites and it explains the feeling of insecurity and how in a way some people are afraid of themselves. This shows deeper meaning that just the words that are being said it explains how our fears of ourselves can lead to our down fall. The metaphors along with the rhyming exhibit poetry features.

"Fools, said I, you do not know
silence like a cancer grows
hear my words that I might teach you
take my arms that I might reach you
but my words, like silent raindrops fell
and echoed in the wells of silence"
This song is called The Sound Of Silence, and it's a pretty common song, but it's become one of my favorite anthems in life, being lyrically complicated but musically simple. The words "silence like a cancer grows" is both a simile and it's also an example of personification. The personification piece is obvious because silence is not a tangible thing, so to put a physical word like "cancer" on it is powerful. It is a simile because they are comparing the ever-growing silence to a tumor that grows within a body, being a disturbance to a person and scaring people. I think there's something to be said about that comparison, as it eerily relates to our lives, silence being so quiet that it's a disturbance.

"Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang." Gucci Gang by Lil Pump. These lyrics use heavy alliteration and solidify what the author is trying to say.

The song "Some Nights" is one of my favorite songs and it essentially describes the Civil War in the point of view of a person from the Union who has to fight against his own brother. It gives an emotional viewpoint of fighting.

The Song "Believer" by Imagine Dragons it talks about believing in things that are important to you. In this song it uses repetition to catch people and make them listen and like the rhythm more than a boring song that will never get people hooked.

One of my favorite songs is 'Stargazing' by Kygo and Justin Jesso. The first lines of this song are, "You're saying it's hopeless, That I should hope less, Heaven can help us, Well maybe she might". I really like this part of the song for two reasons. The first is that when he ends his first two lines with 'hopeless' and 'hope less', it adds a really cool effect where these sound the same but have different meanings within the sentence. Also, I really like how he referred to heaven as a 'she'. This displays the use of personification because heaven isn't actually a person, but he refers to it as one.

One of the songs that I will always enjoy is 'New person, Same Mistakes, by Tame Impala' This song is about feeling as if you will never grow because your holding on to the past. Then throughout the song it gets more and more positive, and how every say you're a new person and that you should allow yourself to grow. Also its pretty catchy:) The rhythm of the words and the way that they are placed helps the listener to hear the lyrics and process them, plus the lyrics are easy for people to relate to and incorporate into their own lives.

One song that has always resonated with me is Good Morning by Two Door Cinema Club. A lyric I love is
"I'm a sinner, I'm the victim
I'm an alien when I'm myself
I'm a healer, I'm a fixer
I'm a present danger to my health"
this verse used a XAXA rhyme scheme, where the second and fourth lines rhyme and the first and third do not. This works well in the song because it gives emphasis to the lines that say the main points. The equal balancing of non rhyme and rhyming lines also prevent the song from seeming a little to "Dr.Seuss-y"
