Fitzgerald seems like a person who wants people to know about his life. As do we all, but he has a way of doing to make it seem as though its an actual real life tragedy if you want to call it. As a writer, that is what got him the attention that is good.
After watching the video I have noticed that Fitzgerald is not as glamorous as his books. He was a an alcoholic and his wife was considered crazy. But I think hat also fits his books because he was not perfect and everyone of his stories always end either badly or in a sad way. I think that relates to Fitzgerald because he was a broken man and that shows throughout the books that they never end perfectly. According to the video he loves attention that his weighting got him, I think that shows in his books because they are all so elaborate and the all have very wild and crazy story lines.
Fitzgerald first comes across as optimistic and lively. He had an American dream and fulfilled it until he hit his 40s and then derailed. He had several hopes and aspirations to genuinely understand the world's perspectives. He obtained motivation to never fail after he saw his father's career go downhill. Fitzgerald was born with a gift and he used it to receive acceptance at school.
I noticed that Fitzgerald wrote for the attention. he used writing skills to impress people and that he cared more about this writing than his education. He was a glory seeker when he was a writer and in the military.
I noticed that Fitzgerald's passion for writing came from the story of his life. Coming from a poor family he had a hard time fitting in. His writing helped him fit in and have social acceptance. He based his writing off of the time period he was living in, the 20's, his romantic life, war, and more.
Fitzgerald loved writing and he gained a following and social acceptance because of their interest in his work. His classmates admired his writing in high school and college. He wrote for his high school and college magazines. He wrote plays for the school and spent less time studying. He fell in love and she left so he used her as an inspiration for some of his female characters/mentionings within his novels.
Fitzgerald used writing as a way to fit in and have his own thing. he used this to get attention and to get acceptance. He used writing to manipulate people in to the way he wanted them to be around him. He wrote in college to make himself a star in the theatrical area of writing.
Fitzgerald had a little bit of a hard life growing up and that motivated him to find something that would help him fit in. He found writing and he discovered he was very good at it. He had a passion for it. I think it's interesting that his writing helped him fit in everywhere he went. He could write almost anything. Fitzgerald was brave which I think plays hand and hand with his book because during the time The Great Gatsby was a risk to write about due to it's exposure.
After watching the video that introduces us to Fitzgerald is very interesting to see his life and how it shaped him into the person and writer that he was. One major ideal he had was to never be a failure and this shaped him to who he was. He went to all the write prep school and he was able to fit in with the rich kids by using his writing to be accepted by his peers. It also seems that he had a very blown up idea of himself and he thought very highly of himself. He also started drinking a lot and this continued throughout his life. He also used many of his own life experiences later in his own books to create plots and characters. Seeing the background of his life makes his characters and books very interesting and keeps the reader on their toes.
Fitzgerald seems to have unbelievably high expectations for himself and can never seem to meet them. He seems totally unable to really please himself.
Fitzgerald is known as the American Dreamer. He seems like your classic American success story. and his passion for writing is very interesting, because he is so naturally talented at writing, at least according to the video. He seems like a very wild person when the video talks about him dressing in drag and getting super drunk all of the time and flunking out of school.
The quote "give me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy" really stuck to me. This truly shows his look on life. He became an alcoholic and showed early signs of it in his college years. He dated a girl in college who was rich and since he was poor her father disapproved. The idea of 'The Golden Girl' can be related back to her. Scott failed out of Princeton and then went to war. He eventually fell for a party girl and later married her.
Fitzgerald is an interesting person in that his passion for writing seemingly stems from his successes rather than his own personal opinions. He mostly continued to push towards his writing career due to the popularity he amassed through his writing in school, and his overall major life decisions were driven by this success. He of course did have personal connections and passion towards writing, but it definitely seems that he would have pursued any kind of career if he was successful enough.
F. Scott Fitzgerald appears to be similar to the character which he develops in his novel. He imagines that his success is nearly guaranteed and sets large ambitions for himself, yet over time he develops an understanding of the truth. In the novel, the protagonist learns that his success is based off the advantages he was born with and in real life Fitzgerald learns that success isn’t guaranteed. Writing seemed to be a way for Fitzgerald to illustrate his thoughts and struggles regarding his life. This acted as a coping mechanism when he struggled in his earlier life.
I feel that Fitzgerald is writing through his own personal experience. It's amazing to see that he was able to write such iconic works even when he seemed to be struggling. I find it interesting that the certain parts of the book show that the economic differenced between people lead to heartbreak and broken promises, as the same thing happened to him. I feel that as the class reads this they will actually be reading about Fitzgerald himself, in an abstract kind of way.
I feel like Fitzgerald is a powerful writer and he kept on this track because of the success he had in his college writing and the popularity that he received. He had expressed himself throughout his book though his characters that he created. He had an emotional connection to his books which I thinks makes the book better. I guess it just allows the reader to understand him and his lifestyle.
I wouldn't exactly agree with the specific thesis of the video, the idea that F Scott is a quintessential american dreamer. It is a wonderful story that he has, almost as poetic as a novel itself. The sort of books that he would end up writing seem to be very autobiographical.
After watching the first part of this video, i've noticed that although he has an incredible skill with writing, he seemed to care more about the fame that he received than the writing itself. This kind of defined his life because he seemed to fall apart whenever he started to lose fame. I also noticed that he often missed some of his big chances to glory
Fitzgerald definitely had a hard upbringing with how he came from a poor family and didn't really fit in. He also faced alcoholism, had a crazy wife, etc. However, I believe that he is a representative of the American Dream with how he used his hardships as a motivation to become a writer. He ended up turning his life around and then was able to fit in because of his success as a writer.
Fitzgerald really projects himself onto the characters in his novels. The novel illustrates the time period he lived in greatly and is very melancholy in the manner that he did not feel like the successes in one's life are earned entirely or by merit, but through luck and deceit.
F. Scott Fitzgerald seems like your average guy. He wanted a rich, and famous life. He was joining the war, to see if he could become a hero. He struggles to find himself, and with his writings. He needs to find who he is first before he settles down with anyone.
Fitzgerald's passion for writing came from him just wanting to find a way to fit in and ended up being something he enjoyed doing. With his difficult past and childhood he used his life as inspiration for his writing.
Fitzgerald had a pretty tough life. He grew up poor, became an alcoholic, and married someone who might not been the best fit for him. He decided to join the military, hoping to become a war hero. He has always had passion for writing but couldn’t find something or someone to get his started. Eventually, he will.
Fitzgerald's passion for writing was not only a hobby for him but his way to achieve ambitions and stand out against other people. When everything else failed for him, he wrote, and it seemed to work out fine for him. He wrote to stick in in school when he was not athletically fit and awkward.
Fitzgerald seems to have been a child prodigy slightly ahead of his time, in terms of his writing ability. Not only leaving multiple pieces of literature behind, he left a staple in American literature. While everything seemed slightly difficult, the writing was a strong point in his life, so he ran with it, and it got him far.
Fitzgerald seems like the type of writer to project his past experiences into his writing. It was explained that he couldn't get the "golden girl" in his life, so he projected a golden girl into every single novel he had written. His passion for writing as a child fueled him as he was accepted to Princeton. Although he dropped out, his passion for writing didn't stop. He is also clearly a "realism" writer, as his writings and novels display a basic mindset and setting of a 20th century modern family struggling with very realistic problems that had occurred very frequently during that time period.
After watching the video I can see how Fitzgerald's life was shifted and changed throughout, and I have more of an understanding of what shaped his life. This gives me the ability to also be more understanding and help me relate things in the book to his life. I can see which parts of the book are reflections of Fitzgerald's life, which is interesting.
Fitzgerald's life changed so much throughout the coarse of the book that it would be extremely hard to live like he did. We have to understand what shaped his life in order to fully understand the book. That will give us the ability to relate to his life.
I feel like Fitzgerald's passion for writing was a symptom of his desire to fit in with people or his longing to have the ability for people to know him. When I say symptom, I don't necessarily mean that as a bad thing, I just think it was a positive thing that came as a result of his insecurities.
Fitzgerald's life seems to have changed throughout the course of this book. Knowing this can help relate the book to his life and things that happened.
Growing up and throughout his life, Fitzgerald had many hardships and went through a lot of things. Because of this it was evident that he didn't feel like he fit in, and through writing he felt like he became someone and he was starting to be heard. I think that's what makes his stories and literature relatable, because he wasn't perfect and his life wasn't perfect growing up. Now knowing all this and reading the book, it will make the story and plot more interesting and relatable.
