After watching the 4th part of the video of Fitzgerlad's life, it is again interesting to go back through his life and see how certain things happened and how he reacted tot hem. It is sad about his affair and how Zelda got sick. But I also wonder how different his writing would be if the bad things didn't happen to shape him into the author and person he was.
He was not very loyal to Zelda. He would go for younger women, even though he was madly in love it Zelda. But since she is not well, he can not be completely happy. He reverted into drinking gin all day long due to his frustrations. Sheila had a problem with this because he acted so different. As he drank, things became different with him. At home, he was lucky to get a job because his reputation had gone down hill.
After watching part 4 i noticed that Fitzgerald's life fell apart and got really bad. He had much stress in his life and was hard. He got a few chances to get his life back. No one wanted to hire him and so he went back to writing novels and got excited. His life improved a little. Overall his alcoholic state killed him and made everyone mourn him.
Fitzgerald received lots of attention from people. He worked on a film and ended up disliking it. He helped polish the film ¨gone with the wind¨. THey say that on minute he was very charming and once he started drinking her turned into a totally different person and caused him to fight with his wife all the time. He didn't take are of his body too much and he got a heart attack and stopped drinking all together because it freaked him out so much. He suffered another heart attack and died at 44.
We was not a man's man but women found him very attractive. He still stayed loyal to Zelda even while she was in the hospital. he was not able to stay off the drink after losing his contract. when he was drunk he had fights with sheila. His reputation make it so that no one would hire him. He went back to writing novels. A heart attack make him stop drinking but at 44 he had a fatal heart attack.
Scott was asked to rewrite 'A Yank at Oxford'. Scott met a girl named Shelia at a party and though he was an older and married man she could not resist his charm. He never planned on divorcing Zelda though. Zelda showed no signs of getting better. He was assigned to work on a film called "The Three Conrads', it was hailed as one of the best films of 1938 but Scott hated it. He felt that someone else tweaked a lot of the script and it was not his anymore. MGM did not renew his contract. His drinking had lead to many fights with Zelda. He was getting a bad reputation in Hollywood. Scott and Bud had been asked to write a film about Dartmouth's winter games. Someone asked that they look over Scott and make sure he didn't drink. Scott's new project, 'The Last Tycoon' was one he was very excited about. He was happy to be writing novels again after his adventures in Hollywood. He suffered a mild heart attack that scared him enough to make him stop drinking. He had abused his body for many years. Later, Scott had suffered a massive heart attack which took his life. He had passed at the age of 44. Few people came to his funeral, not even Zelda who was too ill to travel.
F. Scott Fitzgerald arrived in Hollywood, and he was writing many movies and stories. He also decided to stop drinking. Scott was having an affair, but yet he wasn't ready to get a divorce with Zelda. Scott was working with Joseph, the director of the story he created. Joseph didn't like the dialogue Scott prepared for him, so with that Joseph changed the dialogue in Scott's story. Scott wasn't happy with it. Fitzgerald died from an heart attack at the age of 44. His wife Zelda couldn't attend the funeral because she was really ill.
Fitzgerald was a hollywood writer and met a girl named Sheila, even though she was married to Zelda. Fitzgerald then wrote a movie script but the producer changed a lot of the dialogue which he wasn’t too happy about. He then turned again to drinking which lead to a lot of problems and fights with Sheila. It seems that Fitzgerald’s life is a pattern. As soon as he gets a good opportunity from his book or working on a movie, something goes wrong and he turns to drinking. This has been a pattern throughout all his life.
He fled to Hollywood to rejuvenate himself. I think that this was a good idea on his part to have a clean slate and begin again. Zelda shows no signs of getting better, so Fitzgerald is down. The book Three Comrades was made into a movie, but Scott was upset, because the screenwriters did not stick to his book. Fitzgerald and Sheila got into serious arguments that were later depicted in films. Fitzgerald's drinking issue does not diminish, he can't seem to find balance and moderation. The drinking abused his body. He died of a very young age at 44.
Fitzgerald's life changed significantly after entering Hollywood. He now had to deal with collaboration in his work, differing greatly from his independence while writing novels. This created conflict, as Fitzgerald disliked the creator's disregard for his script. The adoption of a new significant partner illustrated, surprisingly, his devotion to Zelda. Addiction to alcohol ended up costing his his health and eventually life. This caused him to rush his last novel, likely worried about his death.
I notice that one of Fitzgerald's worst weaknesses is his drinking problem and his irrationality. I also noticed that he wasn't a very trustworthy or loyal person. Not only did his drinking problem kill him but also pushed him to a point where he was creating bad relationships with friends, family and coworkers. After he died, almost no one came to his funeral, which makes me think he wasn't very popular even though he was well known.
Fitzgerald was not very loyal to his wive or his convictions. He still solved life's problems by drinking even after trying to stop. He drank so much that he made his wife drink and his life kept getting worse. His life was shortened greatly because he drank a lot.
His life just got really depressing at the end. I think everybody in the video was way to involved with not making fitzgerald look bad despite his drinking and womanizing. I think in the end he was a bitter and very flawed man.
Although in vastly different terms than we are used to, Fitzgerald was very loyal to his wife, Zelda. He does start a relationship with another, younger woman, but he insists that he has no desire to divorce Zelda and he still is more loyal to her. However, as Zelda is continuing to not positively progress in her health, he begins his downward spiral into alcoholism and depression. Until the point of his death, he had become a changed man from the many unfortunate events of his later life.
Even tho Fitzgerald turned his life around his past mistakes caused his death. I think if he would have not wrote that letter to his producer he would still have a job in Hollywood and would not have stared a drinking problem.
Fitzgerald's drinking lost him his wife, his job, and nearly lost him his lover but he kept drinking all the while. He ignored warning signs and was killed for his ignorance. Fitzgerald was always self-destructive and he continued to be so unbelievably reckless with his own health. Fitzgerald's decline could have and should have been seen by the people around him but they ignored it. It's no wonder he raced to finish his final book.
Fitzgerald went through another hardship when Zelda was sick. He has had a tough life and keeps going through hard stuff, I think this impacts his writing in a big way. Also, it seems like his life has been an emotional rollercoaster, he is unstable and can't control himself. I think that the Great Gatsby is about his life and his extravagant partying, drinking, and girls.
Fitzgerald's life seemed like this constant struggle, even when things were going well. Even if he had opportunities, he somehow would still end up in some sort of mess or drama. I think that he must have used his writing to cope with all of his struggles. Sadly, his alcohol addiction seemed to ruin his life and killed him.
After watching the film about Fitzgerald's life, I would have to say that Fitzgerald seemed to be getting better and becoming happier, but there was still some obvious struggles, one being alcohol. Fitzgerald started getting more into film, and helped produce one, but ended up wanting to make something better. He finally found a girl, but alcohol seemed to limit his relationship with her and in the end, his life was not perfect.
Fitzgerald's life was a tragic, but a beautiful one. Riddled with alcohol and depression, Fitzgerald still trudged along and found the happiness in life, which was woven into his relationship with both his love for writing and his love for his wife, Zelda. He truly believed and embraced the American Dream, which can be proven through his actions as both a writer and a Hollywood producer. He discovered who he wanted to become at a young age, and became that way through hard work and determination. It seemed like nothing in Fitzgerald's life went the way he wanted it to. With Zelda's diagnosis as a schizophrenic, his alcoholism, and his failure in Hollywood, he still felt determined, and he still worked on what he was passionate about, and surrounded himself with people he felt most comfortable with.
I find it interesting that people didn't find him a mans man, yet he portrays men in a more positive light in his book, than women. I wonder if its because the men had a common experience in a time like this. Whereas, women would have had a different experience. The fact that he also found a girl like Zelda, yet still portrayed women a certain way in the book, makes me wonder if there were more external influences in his life, like alcohol, which affects his social behaviors and his relationships.
Fitzgerald just continues to go through more hardships with Zelda being sick and even more events. He puts this emotion and sadness into his writing. Although, he had a few chances and opportunities to get his life back, so he went to Hollywood to try and get a second chance and a big opportunity to turn himself around. However, he kept getting into arguments with people and even when he wrote a script in Hollywood, the producer changed a lot of this. I think this shot his self confidence and turned him back into drinking and hiding his problems in alcoholism.
I think it is obvious that Fitzgerald’s life was not great by any means. He faced constant hardships like through Zelda getting sick. It seems almost as if he never got a break. However, Fitzgerald used struggles to develop his writing and I think in the end, what he faced truly made him a better writer.
