According to this interview, The Great Gatsby comes across very positively. It seems that this specific book is essential for high school students to read. She also says that she found the book very boring and that when she was a high school student she could not find herself in the text. It wasn't relateable or fascinating for a highschooler. I am torn between thinking that it is interesting or if it is going to be a boring read. It is a classic though!
I like how in the beginning of the interview, she was honest about how she first felt about the book. How is was boring and didn't make any sense, and now she loves it. That just shows that as you get older, more mature, and experience more of life you get to see literature in a different way. A better understanding if you will.
After listening to the podcast I think the view of the book has changed over time. I think it has changed and become more popular due to the changes in how the world looks at society. I think that it was unpopular at first because it talks about riches and at the time of the book there was not very much money to go around. But people started to gain interest in the book throughout time because of people gaining wealth and people wanting to hear the story of Gatsby. I think that this story is also popular because of the openness of the book, it was very open for the 20's and that also could have caused people to not like the book at first but once society became more open the book gained popularity.
After listening to the podcast that introduces us to the text Great Gatsby I am curious to see how the novel is written. The lady that was talking about the novel said she didn’t read it for the characters or plot or action, she read for the voice of the author Fitzgerald. I think it’s going to be interesting trying to read a book that might not have the best plot or action but might simply be the best literature. But I have seen the movie and I am very excited to read the book and see the similarities and differences and compare how my visuals reading can be related to the film. .
After listening to the Gatsby Interview today, It makes me think that the Great Gatsby is going to be very interesting but I am also thinking it might be difficult for me to understand this ¨classic¨ and I might not be able to relate to it as much as an adult could. Although, I have heard so many good things about it from my friends, so I think it will be good.
The lady in the interview was talking about how she didn't like The Great Gatsby when she was in high school. She thought it was boring, I think that a lot of people think the same. There isn't any significant "good" female characters and I think that it is hard to read because of that, everyone likes a strong relatable female lead. While listening to the beginning of the interview, I think that The Great Gatsby can be extremely controversial based on what they are saying. They are saying a lot of significant things and this book must be very important for readers to read.
The interview made me think the book does have a lot of controversy and causes the reader to think. It seems like a book that will definitely invoke conversations. I think that it will be an interesting read and allow room for thought and reasoning.
Based on what I have listened to on the interview it seems that the book is very influential. This text is also not very appealing to many people. For many reasons there weren't any likable female characters. Many people just don't like this book for the characters or the plot. But it seems like that as people mature they can learn to like this book more as they read it. I think that the voice of the book should be interesting.
I think The Great Gatsby is a classic and it is obviously a very common book for both high schoolers and general people. I think it is very beneficial to read different texts in school in order to explore literature more. This text is talked about very highly and because of that, I am excited to read this book. I do believe though that high schoolers often do not enjoy reading books in class, and that can make the reading we do not very enjoyable. That idea was described in the podcast and I can definitely relate to that.
I have seen the movie and I am very excited to read the book as well. The first paragraph in the book reflects back onto the readers life and draws you in to see what is happening. This is a very famous book that has a lot of positive feedback. It accurately reflects the lifestyle of the rich during this time period. I am excited to see how F. Scott Fitzgerald composes this story.
After listening to the interview I feel that this book will not be very exciting and that it will not be a fun read but I think that it will be a different type of style than I am used to reading.
It is interesting to think about the point she made about how she didn't enjoy the book when it was assigned to her in high school. She found it boring, and didn't connect to it when she had first read it, but later in life as an adult she very much loves the book and has read it upwards of fifty times. I'm really thinking that, based on this circumstance, it is a book that is important to a younger audience to learn and experience its themes, and then after they have learned and experienced them throughout their real lives, to come back to the book and understand what the point of the book really was.
After listening to the podcast on the Great Gatsby, I believe that the Great Gatsby is going to be an interesting text to read. The "Jazz age" is one of my favorite times in American History culture wise, so I am excited to read a story from the time.
Her lack of enthusiasm about the book The Great Gatsby when she read it in high school. She noted how there isn't an empowerment of women through character development within the novel that highly disappointed her calling it boring. It seems as if people are saying that the Great Gatsby is relevant to our culture and important to read because its a classic despite the difficulty of reading it might be.
The narrator described the Great Gatsby as a boring book that doesn't have any important or likable characters. The Great Gatsby is apparently common book, so it must be good. The cover looks interesting and colorful.
Listening to the Gatsby podcast had made me very excited to reread this book. A comment one of the women made during the podcast was that she didn't enjoy the book as much when she was attending high school. I feel as if this is an opportunity to connect to different parts of the book in a different way. It hasn't exactly been many years since I have read the book, yet I feel that I may be able to relate to the book more considering I have experienced more than years prior. I also loved how the book was controversial because I feel that something that sparks discussion. Without it, what would change?
From the podcast, I can infer that The Great Gatsby will be about realizations over time that the main character is that which he tries to avoid being. He involves himself in a lot of difficult situations in order to realize this. These realizations caused him to be disillusioned with society, now upset with how people like himself acted. Though we may not like this book while reading it, we may appreciate it later when, perhaps, such things happen to us.
Based on what I listened to today from the Gatsby/ Fresh Air interview I think that this book will be hard to relate too. The lady in the interview explained how she didn't start to appreciate the book until she was older. She felt as though the book did not connect with her youth. I am thinking this famous 20th Century American Literature text might have the same effect on me. Despite the age gap, I feel as though the book will still have good morals.
I think the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is an important book to read. It's a classic book that has been taught over the years at Arapahoe High School. The lady in the interview, was telling us that as a kid she didn't really like the book, but as she got older she started to have an appreciation towards it. I'm super excited to read the book since I've seen the movie before, and it's always fun to read the books and compare the too. Even though the book was made almost a hundred years ago, I do think that it is important to read the older literary books from the past years.
From watching this interview I understand the lady about how she didn't really like the book. When I read it a year ago I didn't like it that much, but I can see the importance of this book. It obviously something that we should be reading because it's been apart of this high school's education for awhile. I think that this book is full of good morals that we can later on understand and appreciate.
The people in the interview seemed to think to highly about Gatsby, with the one stating they had read it dozens of times. The Great Gatsby is described as a classic, but its followers appear almost fanatic about its greatness. These people talk about the book as if it was written by a prophet.
After the interview about the story The Great Gatsby, I am more interested to read why people are all over this book. The girl being interview has stated that she has read the book around 5o times. Also, that when she was younger, she did not enjoy the book. Which has me thinking about whether I will or will not enjoy the book now. And if I will understand more of the book when I become older and more mature. I am excited to read this book, I have heard a lot about it.
I liked the relationship that the speaker seemed to have with the book. She has clearly read it hundreds of times and knows every detail and bit of irony present. I think that might border a bit obsessive, especially considering that she almost considers herself to know the characters personally and talk to them.
After listening to the interview, I thought it funny how the speaker almost has placed herself in the book. Through my 2 readthroughs of the book, I have enjoyed thoroughly, and I'm quite glad I don't have to read it 50 times to find appreciation.
While a large majority of teenagers nowadays don't recognize the important of an American novel such as The Great Gatsby, this reader and critic certainly disagrees with their mindset regarding the 1925 novel by Fitzgerald. Her strong relationship and bond with the novel showed that, while modern teenagers and possibly even teachers can't find a valuable lesson/significance in this novel, she can sure find one, and she projects that discovery in her passion for the novel.
After hearing the interview, I can picture Gatsby as a clean cut, kind human being. This interview made me intrigued to read the book. By coincidence, my father was also talking about the book the other day, which makes me look forward to reading it.
I see Gatsby as a good looking man who is well kept and clean cut. The interview added an another element to the story that the book could not.
I liked that she talked about how this was a book that she didn't like in high school but later, after she read it again, she was able to appreciate it again and loved it. This also makes me think that the book is going to be very straightforward about everything.
I've heard great things about this book, and in the interview one lady said it is such an honest book. I appreciate books that capture raw honesty. A lot of books written so long ago are really boring, but I haven't ever heard someone who's read it tell me that it's boring. I'm excited to see what this book is about and understand why it's so widely appreciated.
After listening to the podcast I think that the book will change over time. At the beginning it is boring and dry but over the course of the book it gets more intriguing. Also I think that the more you mature the more you will understand whats going on.
I liked how honest she was about the book. She said it might not have the best plot or storyline, but it's still known as some of the best literature today. I'm really interested and excited to read this book and see what I think of it since it's such a classic. It might give me the chance to read a different type of literature and look into the meaning of the book in a different way I'm used to.
