"Industrial Revolutions" In a Different Light?

"Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better? Why hide deficiencies instead of overcoming them? Why look for friends or partners who will just shore up your self-esteem instead of ones who will also challenge you to grow? And why seek out the tried and true, instead of experiences that will stretch you? The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it's not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives."
                                                    -Carol S. Dweck

How does the quotation listed above align with the attitude, approach, passion, and message displayed by the subject of the video we viewed- Industrial Revolutions? What are you thinking regarding Dweck's challenge and the video? What do you want to believe about this thinking? Critiques? Application/Ideas to take away? Please respond using complete sentences. This response is due by 3:40p.m. on Wed., Jan. 16th.

In the images that I observed, I saw the ideas of racism, money, power, and revolution. The images made me feel lucky to be alive in the time that I am alive in. In the past, America and the people of America have gone through so much and it makes me feel bad that our society today complains about some of the smaller problems and we make a big deal about them. Our generation and society have not experienced the civil unrighteousness that America used to possess. I am not saying that everything is good the way it is now, I do think we have many issues that we have yet to solve. I do believe that sometimes our society is distracted or chooses to complain about the less important things in life. The past has made America more aware of the problems that our society still face such as discrimination and racism. I think America and the people of America has lost the innocence and the hope that innocence can bring to the table. I think we use a lot of the ideologies that came from the past America.

A growth mindset is indeed a wonderful and productive thing to have. For someone to master a craft, they must have had at least a partial growth mindset going into the learning process. Someone who is 100% static in their approach isn’t likely to progress very far with their efforts. For that reason, I think that the quote and the video line up pretty well. The quote describes the attitude of the guy in the video and that attitude lead him to his impressive skills on the bike. That said, this way of thinking doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Some must find themselves at an absolute “roadblock” of sorts before they are willing to try a less static approach to whatever challenges they may face.

The video Industrial Revolutions illustrates how when a person has positive attitude, growth mindset, passion, and a purpose, they can succeed. Danny MacAskill, the man featured in the video, shows off his biking skills and tricks. I can infer that it took a lot of hard work to get to where he is now. He must have fallen down a lot of times, but he got beck up every time. Instead of failing and giving up because he was not good at it he practiced so he could get better. Dweck believes that people should not show off, instead they should continue working so they can get better. I agree that it is important to challenge oneself and however I believe it is okay to show off. Presenting something you have worked hard on and sharing it with the world makes individuals feel validated and successful as well as inspiring others. Like Dweck I believe that when you have reached your maximum capability of a task you should take on new challenges instead of bragging about your accomplishments. Showing off too much does not help you or others. It may inspire others to challenge themselves but it also can make others feel inferior.

After seeing the video and reading the quote, It shows that people hold themselves back by the decision they make not because they are not capable of anything. The video shows how an individual with goals and talent can do anything they want to. The quote is questioning why people would hold themselves back. I believe anyone can achieve anything if the dedication, hard word and discipline is there.

The quotation and the video show that you can use the critiques or struggles you get to grow and get better at a skill, or be a better person, or find something that makes you grow intellectually. There is always something you can try to master and then improve. There is always a passion you can find. Don't back down from a challenge but overcome it and become better. There is always something to improve from. You just have to try, instead of hoping someone doe it for you.

The video Industrial Revolutions illustrates how we think as humans we don't necessarily like to be uncomfortable as people. The general thought is if we are doing something good and comfortable then why change anything? That is a realistic question why change something that is working? I think it is hard to challenge yourself. It's scary and not all people have the ability to do. Its something hard to explain why we do it but it's as simple as why change something that is working for us with the knowing of if we change it, it may hurt us and we will have to figure something else out. I think it's all in the hands of laziness and not wanting to go the extra mile.

The video illustrates the importance of trying and trying and attempting more. He never stops trying to do thins a different way and he changes his surroundings to help him accomplish what he wants to do. He has a passion for what he is doing so he keeps on trying.

I think in the video industrial revolutions. This man comes into an abandoned train station and starts doing absolutely insane BMX tricks all over the place. He is literally overcoming obstacles I would call impossible by climbing these crazy objects and trains with a bicycle and maintaining the balance he had. The way he overcame them shows how anyone can do what they think is possible and overcoming those obstacles are what gives that person dedication.

This video illustrates how creativity can lead to great things and not to be complacent with what you are. To most people that would just seem like a junkyard full of scrap and used things but the biker makes it so much more. Just by using a little creativity he turns this junkyard into his very on skate park doing tricks on all the thought to be old and useless items. This video shows that even some things that appear to be useless have tons of untapped potential we just need to get creative to find it.

Both the video and quote represent the exact same thing in my opinion. They both represent the idea of perseverance and hard work. The man biking in the video performs bike tricks. With everything, you make mistakes. The video shows a man who performs these hard tricks that he would have to keep persevering through in order to master these skills. The quote shows that everyone needs to be able to take a situation they are in and preserve through even when it may be hard, which will ultimately grow ones character and grit.

The video illustrates the movement of Naturalism, and the idea that we don't have to focus on technology we can take the simplest things from around us and turn it into something great. Danny MacAskill, shows his bike skills in nature and on abandon things that were once great and then turns it into something even better. The video gives the idea of pursuing what you wanna do and the idea of turning something ordinary and turn it into something unordinary.

The video Industrial Revolutions shows that when a person has hope and determination they can do whatever they put their mind too. Even when times are hard and you think there is no hope, if you change your attitude anything is possible. The guy in the video, Danny MacAskill, comes up with new tricks everytime. The tricks on the bike are very hard so he probably failed a lot, but he always got back up and tried it again because he was determined. I bet he practiced and somedays thought he was never going to achieve his goals. Even though he had these hard times he still woke up the next day and tried again. I bet people thought he was crazy and told him he was stupid, but he didn't listen. The only way to accomplish your dreams is through hard work and self-confidence. Sometimes after one accomplishes their goals they show off and tell everyone about it and never stop talking about it. While this can be a good thing it can also lead to too much bragging about it. Celebrate your achievements in the right way not the wrong. Over celebration can be unhealthy for the person bragging too. I agree with Dweck when he says that "Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better?" Because we can all be better then we are the day before. There is always room for improvement.

Based upon the video and the quotation, anyone and everyone could improve themselves by being a ¨better¨ version of themselves. I am thinking that people should take daily risks in their lives so that they can become a better version of themselves and live a happier life. By taking risks people do not worry as much, this could help many people because many people worry about things everyday, so they should live life more on the edge. People also should not worry so much about what others think of them and the decisions that they make because it is their life. We as humans are so consumed with the thoughts of failure and impressing others that we are not the best version of ourselves. We can achieve our goals by taking risks, being the ¨better¨ us, and holding onto hope through it all.

After watching the video and reading the quotation, I came to the conclusion that in life, you need to find a happy medium between working very hard and having fun. I am all about working the hardest that you can, and not taking any days off. But while reading the quotation, it changed my perspective. All though you DO need to work hard to become a better you, you also have to enjoy life and have fun. On the other side of the spectrum, if you have too much fun, and become unfocussed, it could be detrimental for yourself. The goal is to find the perfect middle point, where you are able to have fun and enjoy life, but also work hard to become the best overall person you can be.

The video I just watched shows how if you put your mind to something and have A Positive attitude about something, you can be very skilled and the hard work will pay off. They show him messing up in the video but he didn't complain about it after, his body language and attitude was still positive.

The video Industrial Revolutions shows how when someone really pushes themselves and has passion for what they are doing anything is possible. Even if you think you aren't very good at something but you love it you can accomplish your goal and achieve anything. The quote from Dweck also has this type of idealism because she states that you always need to push yourself in order to accomplish greater things. Both the video and the quote show that you can be good at anything even without work, but when you really start to put in the work is when you can become amazing at something.

The video Industrial Revolutions not only showed a guy riding a bike, but it also showed his passion. He pushes himself and practices to get better at what he loves. He is determined to get better and learn new tricks each day. He doesn't master his skills in one day. It takes practice and even though he fails at a trick, he picks up his bike and keeps trying. He shows positivity in his actions and spends his time getting better. Both the quote and the movie show that if you put work into anything, then you can be good at something.

The video, Industrial Revolutions, displays an extremely talented man riding and doing difficult tricks on his bike. This video correlates directly to the quote written by Dweck. the man in the video is very talented and has clearly worked extremely hard on mastering these skills. Not only were the skills interesting but through the video you saw him challenge himself and create new tricks that pushed him to new limits. This skill is something that is crucial to life. It is known as a growth mindset. This type of mindset is when a person continues to learn and strive for new goals even when they've become proficient in an area. This important skill isn't only seen through these examples but also mine and almost everyone's daily life. One thing that I'm going to take away from this is that I'm never to good. Instead of continuing to do a mediocre job and just get by I want to start learning more skills and ways to improve in several areas of life.

After watching the video, I have taken away that if you push yourself, you can achieve and be the best possible version of yourself. The amount of time it probably took for biker to learn and master all those skills is probably around months to even years. He had a really good achievement, to be the best possible and I think that he has achieved that goal. For me I get really worried about what I do and what I like because I am worried what people might think of me, and I know that not a good mindset to have, but I will be able to grow of of that and show people what I am really capable of.

To me, the video shows a lot of inspiration. To push harder and to try your best. The biker had very good skills, he is dedicated and will keep trying his best. Very inspirational. What I noticed was his is very passionate about biking, but he also has a lot of fun with it. Everyone needs to have fun, but be passionate.

The video only highlights the 20% of his biking carreer, and not the other 80% of failure and hard work.

The video shows how people have passion in their lives and become who they want to be and do what they want to do because of their passion. The man in the video does many different tricks. While being quite difficult, I'm sure he had to retry the moves many times, he managed to pull through and finish and conquer them. He had determination to finish something and he did it. It must have taken him a long time to actually master his skills. With practice, determination, and passion, he was able to become the best. Hard work is very important if you want to become the best possible version of yourself.

After looking at the pictures in class, watching the video, and reading that quote, I really think that a lot of inspiration/motivation is portrayed from it. People always are lazy and try and find the easy way out of hard situations that make them work and think. the real reason for this is just from watching other people see what is right and wrong to take action with any situation. People are not ready to take the extra mile which might help them significantly without them even knowing. take that extra step, the extra mile and try harder because all of the resources are there for you to succeed, its just whether or not you want to.

The video shows a very skilled bike rider doing difficult tricks. This shows inspiration because it is obvious that the man took many many years to master his skill. In all reality, what was shown in the video was not the only out takes to be had. There were probably many many failures that went along the to the process of making this video. The grit and determination to film all of this and master it into video takes an extreme amount of determination.

After reading the quote, it is clear that in order to be better and make progress in your life, you need to put yourself in situations that will challenge you. After watching the video, it is also clear the Danny knows exactly how to challenge himself. He doesn’t waste a lot of time trying to prove how great he is, instead, he dedicates a lot of time trying to find new ways to challenge himself. He decided to show his few failures in the video in order to make the times he succeeded that much more important. I think he truly has “The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it's not going well.”

One of Charles Dwecks’ lines in his quote reminded me of something we saw in the video. The quote was “...why hide deficiencies instead of overcoming them?” This quote reminded me of how, in the video, one scene showed Dweck trying to make a jump with his bike, but the wheel getting caught and him falling over. In the next scene, it shows him making the jump. This shows how Dweck didn’t want to just have a video of him making and performing jumps and tricks perfectly, seemingly without error. He wanted to show how all of those perfections meant he had to experience thousands of mess-ups, and he demonstrated this by including one of those mess-ups in his video. He also showed how he then overcame it, and performed the trick perfectly.

After reading and analyzing this quote, it is true that rather than wasting time trying to explain how great we are, we should strive to be better. This will allow us to not only be better people but also be more humble. I think that this perfectly shows our generation of people. We constantly attempt to show the best parts of our lives while we constantly try to hide the things that we are struggling with. Something I will definitely take away the idea of trying to be better rather than hiding to bad things about me. I think that I should instead of trying to convince not only others but even myself that I am great, I should just work to be a better person and not hide the bad things about my life.

Charles Dweck makes interesting points in this quote. I agree that is is always more important to better oneself than it is to makes oneself feel better. I believe putting full effort into what you do not only improves capabilities but increases a sense of purpose. I have experienced this situation a lot in horseback riding. I used to do competitions that I know I could win but did not completely challenge me. This year I was able to participate in high level shows that really pushed me and I didn't place well in many but I was so much happier with how I rode.

After reading the quote and watching the video I think that the quote can be implied to Danny Macaskill. I'm guessing he could do that kind of riding easily on a track or course made for doing stuff like that, but he challenges himself by riding in what looks like an abandoned train station type of place. The quote talks about sticking with something even if it gets difficult and about bettering yourself instead doing things you have already mastered. I think that is exactly what Danny Macaskill does, because riding on top of old buildings and trains is going to be a lot different and most likely more difficult to do then what he may normally ride on, but he pursues it and improves as a rider.
