"I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of a rainbow... so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces... of people going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin'.. how do you do?
They're really sayin'... I love you.

I hear babies cry... I watch them grow
They'll learn much more... than I'll never know
And I think to myself... what a wonderful world"
Author: Bob Thiele and George David Weiss.
The singer is Louis Armstrong. This song is an actual poem transformed into an amazing song. Uses beautiful repetition and uses rhymes in some words.

One of my favorite songs is "Country Roads" by John Denver, and throughout this song there are a couple examples of alliteration.

EX: "West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads."
- Mountain mamma is an alliteration.

EX: "Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye."
-Dark and dusty is another example of alliteration.

I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome
And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone
Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be
Alive!

This is the song "Handlebars" by the Flobots. This song demonstrates many poetic elements including rhyming schemes, repetition, and tone/theme. It tells the story of two boys who were friends but grow apart over time. With the theme being how easy it is to grow apart/how hard growing up is. The repetition tells makes important parts of the story more evident and emphasizes parts of importance. Finally the rhyming in this song serves to keep the person listening to this song engaged as well as making the song just more pleasant to someone's ears.

Old Pine by Ben Howard.

Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags
I've come to know that memories
Were the best things you ever had
The summer shone beat down on bony backs
So far from home where the ocean stood
Down dust and pine cone tracks

These lyrics exhibit some rhyme scheme or slant rhyming, great imagery, and throughout the song there is great repetition when the verses repeat.

Need to stay up out them streets if you can't take the heat
You need to stay up out them streets if you can't take the heat
Cause it get cold like Minnesota, cold like Minnesota
Cold like Minnesota, it get cold like Minnesota
Need to stay up out them streets if you can't take the heat
You need to stay up out them streets if you can't take the heat

Cause it get cold like Minnesota, ridin' 'round on boulders
Money sittin' up, it sits way above your shoulders

In the song Minnesota by Lil Yachty, Yachty uses lots of repetition in the chorus as well as good rhythm and a good rhyme scheme. He also uses metaphors when he says he is riding round on boulders.

A specific line that I particularly like and appreciate is from the song "Power" by Kanye West:
"So goodnight cruel world I'll see you in the morning'."
The artist uses personification and a metaphor to convey his message. The cruel world he is saying goodnight to is the problems and challenges that he has been faced with and sealed with. When he says he will see them the cruel world in the morning he is stating that he is ready to take on new challenges. Personification is used when the artist says goodnight to a cruel world that is not human and doesn't feel emotions.

A song line that to me reflects as poetry is "Take me to church, I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies, I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife, offer me that deathless death, good God, let me give you my life." This to me relates to poetry because it is not something that you hear and can just understand, I think that you have to evaluate it more so than some other just repetitive modern songs. I also think that this is kind of like poetry because there are metaphors in the whole song to help him portray what he is trying to get across.

Song: Over the rainbow
Artist: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

The poetic technique that Israel; utilizes the best throughout his song is imagery and sensory detail. For example, he give us clear images "Well I see skies of blue" "And i see clouds of white" "And the brightness of the day." All of these lines help the reader get a clear image of the setting and dreams that he hopes for. In addition, Israel uses sensory detail to appeal to the readers. He includes phrases such as "I hear babies cry and I watch them grow" and "Well I see trees of green and red roses too." These lines appeal to our auditory, taste, and sight senses.

My Rolly don't tick tock, it just glide
Keep staring at it and you might go blind
I be movin' clean, I don't even try
All I see is bands, bands, I spy
Yeah, dat way
I need that moola by Tuesday
Yeah, dat way
I low key feel like fungswae
I just now got started
Got views on views, I'm poppin'

Teo's verse from the song Rolex has a rhyme scheme of the last word rhyming with the last word of the next line then in the middle the last words of four consecutive lines rhyme.
The verse is aided the the timing of the delivery, each line takes about the same amount of time to deliver but because of pausing and holding certain words to rhyme and keep the pace of the song consistent.
He also repeats "yeah, dat way" through out the song as repetition.

I'm ballin', ballin'
I came from nuttin to something
Like it's nuttin, yeah you know I done it
Now there's no discussion
cause I'm ballin', ballin' (Altered Lyrics)

Logics lyrics use shotten words or "slang" to create a sense of reality. When it comes to reality, Logic has used the majority of his time and the instruments he uses to create music that tell a story. In this song, the story consists of him after getting known, after gathering such a big fan base. He uses his mixed race as a way to create music that appeals to the white and black community. The second to third set if the lyrics are a perfect example to show that he was a nobody. He couldn't do much with the situation his family, he was in, but now he is somebody. He uses such shotten words to appeal to such a grandiose audience that you wouldn't believe.

Unhappy girl
Fly fast away
Don't miss your chance
To swim in mystery
You are dying in a prison
Of your own device

The song “Unhappy Girl” by The Doors exhibits rhyme scheme and metaphor.

Bad and Boujee by Migos
I'm always hangin' with shooters (brrah)
Might be posted somewhere secluded (private)
Still be playin' with pots and pans, call me Quavo Ratatouille

This song uses allusion to the popular kids film, Ratatouille. He uses this allusion to further the metaphor previously used of "playin' with pots and pans'.

Whiskey Lullaby
Brad Paisley, Allison Krauss
“She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette”
This long lyrics shows the poetry terms imagery and simile. It shows imagery because we can see how she broke up with him. The way he felt, all in one line. The way the singer wrote down the feeling and action shows a lot of imagery and poetry feelings. The simile comes from this quote too. Its saying she broke up with him like a burning cigarette. I think that this really shows emotion and actions taking place in just this line. I think that's the thought of lyrics. To show something through poetry in a more musical way.

"Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do"
This is Wonderwall by Oasis. I think this song depicts poetry because of the deeper meaning it has and how they often use metaphors in the lyrics. This song is simply about the feelings human beings get when they experience the initial stages of love and infatuation.
