I personally think that Dexter views Judy more as a symbol of what he wants to have. He wants to have a successful life with a beautiful woman. I think that he does like Judy and admire how confident she is, but he mostly likes her because he knows that she is the men that all men want and he wants to be seen as a great man. Dexter did his best in every part of life from caddying to his job and now the last part would be for him to have the perfect wife. So i think Dexter liked Judy for what status she would give him.
I think that Dexter views Judy as more of a symbol that he wants to obtain rather than someone that he actually loves. I think that he is first attracted by how beautiful she is and also the power that she holds and the fact that every man has the same feeling and has the want to be with Judy. Having this woman as a wife would make him more popular and well noticed, along with his caddying reputation.
Dexter in my opinion did not fall in love with Judy because of who she is. I think that he fell in love with her because of her beauty. Dexter wants what he can not have, I think he feels inferior to Judy and that makes he want her more. Judy was a well known woman and Dexter convinces himself that social reconciliation is more important to him than true love.
According to the story Dexter sees Judy as a dream he has somehow always wanted to obtain. In his eyes she is the most perfect person he could ever hope to pbtain or be apart of in his life. But his true charactor is shown at the end of the story when he learns from a business partner ethat the beauty he once thought was so rare and precious top obtain, has now become a homemaker of her children and is just as normal as any other girl. I think that Dexter is in love with being in love. He like the feeling he gets from being with her and from her affection and mystery, and hes even willing to get a little hurt over it. Judy however, does not know what she truly wants and skips from man to man to find the amend for her long search for true love. Dexter does not love her, he loves the feeling and that would make her just an object of pride to him instead of his futre partner and best friend.
I really like what hannah said about Dexter reveling his true colors at the end of the story by how he reacted to finding out that she is no longer Judy Jones. I think that Dexter switches back and forth between love and Status. At the very beginning of their relationship he was in love but as he came to realize who she was ie. how she jumps from guy to guy he was more attached to her through a status symbol. As the story progressed it seems to me that he is in love with her even though he has a perfectly good fiance. He wants everything about Judy the sporatic life, fearlessness and freshness. But he, being a businessman, can't tag along with her. I think that they were in love and in the end sacrificed and paid for what they did to each other.
I think that Dexter views Judy as a status symbol because he just wants to become more popular. Dexter just wants to live a normal "American" life, beautiful wife and children, and to have success. I think that Judy was just a trophy in the mind of Dexter, but Judy was the woman of want for many men. I agree with Alli B and Kelly S because they both felt that Dexter wants to obtain a popular status by being with Judy.
in my opinion i think that Dexter views Judy as someone who can represent what he has always wanted. he viewed life as being a success with a good job and a beautiful women, and to him Judy was just what he needed to complete his dream life.
I am going to agree with David.I think that dexter views Judy as a dream girl that he wants to be very successful and be able to get her. I think that he could also be using her as a status symbol to gain more popularity among friends.
I believe that Dexter fell for Judy not only because she was beautiful, but because she was different from the other girls in her actions and truly stood out because of that.
yzyMost of the posts previous to mine make their opinions obvious that they believe Judy is simply a want of Dexter's. While I agree, I feel that his desire is stronger than want. In my mind it's as if he needs her to achieve his ideal life. He has been brain washed to think that he needs a physical symbol, such as a beautiful woman, to mark his success. I do not feel that Dexter is in love with Judy, but instead the idea of Judy and all that she stands for.
I believe that Dexter fell in love with Judy because she is beauty not because of who she is, I think he wants to have Judy for "show" instead of him loving her. He wants Judy to help his image. This reminds me of high school relationships.
I agree with Cody. I think that Dexter views dating Judy as an accomplishment rather than a person he loves. Dexter wants Judy to be the girl on his arm because it would make him look successful. Dexter doesn't really love Judy, he convinces himself that they are right for each other when the reality is they don't belong together. He is blinded by his dreams of dating Judy.
