My version of the american dream is being able to do what you want no matter where you came. If you want to be a musician, you can be a musician. Or a writer, architect, business man. Whether you came from Beverly Hills or Compton, here in America, you can suceed at what you want to do. Although many people interperet this as what society wants for you, that is not the case. You may be great at math but you love playing music. In my idea of the American dream, you would be the musician. If you want to make a lot of money, try to make lots of money. sometimes though you have ot make a decision for yourself, and this is where I believe people get mixed up. People say, well I want to make a lot of money but I can't because my family needs me to be there for them instead of at the office working overtime. So therefore the American dream is unobtainable. But all that is saying is that you have a bigger dream then money, and that is your family and friends.
The generic American dream is for someone to come from nothing and gain everything. But honostly who cares about having everything. whats the point? i dont want to become the tippical american man who is an ignorant and selfish drone enslaved to societys every wish. my american dream is to be a free man. not just the "american freedom" free but free from fear, free from conformity, free from worldy things that so often turn a generous and giving man into a bitter and selfish person. my american dream is to live in a way that affects those around me causing them to think and act differently. people find themselves depressed and frustrated trying to persue the american dream when all they have to do is stop and enjoy the life and things that are in front of them. so in short my american dream is to become what brings me the most joy. why let the world rule you when you can rule your own world?
Sense the beginning of this country, there has always been a version of the American dream. The American dream for most people is just the possibility of coming to America and doing whatever you want, when you want, with whoever you want. I believe that the dream has multiple categories in which people seek when they come to America. It could be a tolerance of race/religion/gender, the exaggerated propaganda of materialism, or just moving and starting a new life. In order for your dream to become reality, you may have to sacrifice parts of one dream for another. For instance, if you want to become a famous person, you may alienate someone who was close to you at some point. Sometimes the dream you want could be entirely different than the dream you actually obtain. The word dream is defined as, ‘an aspiration; goal; aim’ (dictionary.com) which suggests that whatever you want while you’re in America, you will have to work for it. The word is also defined as ‘something of an unreal beauty, charm, or excellence’ (dictionary.com) which would also suggest that dreams can be unreachable and unrealistic. Anyone can say they are going to move to America and become a famous actor or musician, but it takes talent, skill, and hard work to get to the level the professionals are on. In retrospect, the American dream has to be more than just a dream, but determination and willpower with a sensible goal in mind.
My forefathers created a wonderful country, provided with freedom and opportunities for everyone. The american dream in my mind is the idea that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. No matter where you came from or what status you uphold, you can follow your dreams. Americans have many opportunities that we take for granted. The fact that we can worship freely is another American miracle. People all over the world are confined to one common belief based on the government. Within a couple of miles in the U.S.,there are at least three to five different types of places of worship. Then, we have the option to take part in our government; become a leader ourselves, express our opinions freely, and voting for our own view of future government leaders. We are just so fortunate to live in this country and to have the chance to carry out the american dream.
My version of the American Dream is a sucessful career, but most of all becoming happy with yourself and the way you turned out. ALso the american dream could be able to support yourself and your family on your terms wether that be spoil them or bring them up tough. I think we define the American dream as just success in general. But it can't be described/ defined into one idea cause its ever changing and is different for every individual. For me I just want to be successful and happy with my earnings and family i hopefully have.
The american dream to me is very simple. Its to have a good life, a good job, health, and all of your family there with you. Maybe its not being rich but having enough to sustain you and your loved ones. You can do what ever you want, and not letting anything stop you. Just to have a very simple but good enough life.
My version of the American dream is happiness. I think the American dream should be finding happiness, not having 6 cars and a huge house. I think peoples conception of the American dream has become askew. People used to leave there homeland to come here to be happy and successful. That didn't mean they need a brand new Lexus to park in their 4 car garage. It seems that in modern society unless you make a lot of money you are not considered successful. To me the man living in a shack and doing what he loves has better achieved the American dream then the white color slave who sits behind a desk all day and hates his job.
The american dream to me is being rich and famous. America is a place where people can express themselves freely and have the capability to take many opportunities. Most people want to be really rich and have the perfect family and body and everything that society glamorizes. The american dream is important to me because it is something that is hard to reach and will take alot of effort to make come true, and those are the best kind of dreams, the ones you have to work for and earn.
To put it very simply, the American dream to me is to find joy, not happiness but joy. In a land such as America with so much freedom and opportunity everywhere that we turn, everyone should have a shot at doing things that they love. Happiness can be found almost every day, especially with a little help from an optimistic point of view in the land of opportunity, but often times is short lived. If people would understand that just because they are not necessarily ecstatic or super happy, doesn't mean that they can't be content with the situation that they are living in, then this American dream may be attainable. However, with those things said, I am not optimist and there are many opportunities every day in which it is extremely difficult to have such a positive outlook so, the key, I believe, to finding this joy, is through being able to do whatever it is that you truly love, which is such a part of America, being able to do whatever it is that you love.
The American dream is one of opportunity. People came to our country to seek a new beginning, a fresh start from what they left behind. To me, the American dream has come to represent the attainment of goals that are specific upon an individual. While one person may consider a purchased home in the Rocky Mountain National Park his American dream, another might regard it as the financial ability to operate his own business. Thus, there is no cut and dried definition of the American dream as long as any two people hold a different meaning. I strongly believe that there is no better place to seek out your personal desires than here in America.
My version of the American dream is to be happy. People think that the American dream is about material things and money because most believe that these things will make them happy. I disagree, happiness is being content with your life and how it turned out. Having money and things make life eisier but not necesarily happier. A prime example of this is Hollywood. They have more money then they no what to do with and yet most of them can't stay married for over a year or have an addiction to drugs. I wouldn't say that they live lives that are just happy. I believe that the American dream means something different to everyone but all have one thing in common, the pursuit of happiness. Happiness is journey not a destination.
The American Dream is whatever you want it to be. The uniqueness of this dream is what makes America the best country in the world. If a person views having tons of cars and money as their American Dream that's perfectly acceptable. If a person sees having a happy/healthy family as their American Dream, then that is just as great of an acomplishment as being a superstar in the NBA. If a person becomes tied down to one concrete idea being THE American Dream, then their creative options become limited. The intrigue of America is that you can be whoever you want to if you put your mind to it. With that being said, I believe that the American Dream is succeeding at whatever you truly value in your life.
I, like many of the people who commented before me, think that the American Dream is different for everyone. There isn't a specific definition that can be attached to it. For me, my American Dream is just to find joy in my life. I do agree with Jeremy in that i think the American Dream has definitely altered itself in the recent years. People used to hope for simple things such as being able to provide for their family and happiness. Now everyone wants a huge house and more money than they know what to do with. I think that if people went back to the basics of happiness things, the world would be a lot less greedy.
I believe that everyone has a different view of the American dream. each person having unique charastics that they bring on their own. My view of the American dream is what makes me a unique person. i want to be a person who is successfull in life at what ever i do. i want to be a person who never quites or gives up. Many times i hear people talking about what they wanted to be when they were little and how it has changed as they got older. all this change because their not rich enough or dont have the looks. i think that people should follow their dreams."One who never quits will eventually succeed." For me succeeding is not all about money. It's finding people that care about you and stiking with them. so with every American dream different i hope to fufill my American dream and mine only.
I dont think the american dream is not about joy or hapiness but its simply to be wealthy or able to support yourself. The reason most people come to america is to work and earn wages that will allow them to support their family. Most of them come from poor conditions and dont want to endure poverty. Although there are most likley some that come for more personal reasons. Some may come to be with family and others may come because they disagree with their government. Overall though I think people come to America to have the material things that they believe Americans have. Happiness is just something that comes along with it.
My version of the american dream is to live the life you want. To live the way you want and not how society wants you to live. To live without some many worldy materials and be so concerned on what you have. Many people are judged on their house or how much money they have when they should be judged on their character and what they do in life. Worldy possesions are looked on so highly and in my dream world they wouldn't be so important. In the dream I have people would live how they think they wanted to and not how everybody else wants them to live.
Many people today keeping making the American dream out to be only one thing that every American wants. but the way they make it sound, makes it out to be only one dream that americans share meaning that it is not your own dream. some people even make it out to be a fantesy. but what is the american dream? to me it is to get a good job and yes maybe a little sucess but not to much that i get so involoved that family suffers. i really would rather have a family that i love and that love me. another dream of mine is to travel the world ... to see things that people rarely get to see. i also wanted to do it with friends or like my boy-friend. i dont really care for all the fancy things in life just the things that are close to my heart. yes, i won't lie having riches would be ok too but really aren't we already rich because of the friends and family we have and the things we have that make us happy in our own way... things that are closer to our hearts? that is my American Dream1
I think that the American Dream doesn’t have a particular definition. The definition changes for each person; everyone has a different dream that they want to accomplish, and they each might have one main goal that they want to accomplish in their lifetime: their American Dream. My American Dream is to live a life that brings me happiness, and allows me to help others in their search for their own dreams. I want to live a simple life so that I spend less time worrying about myself and spend more time in helping other people to accomplish their own dreams. I want to be part of the selfless group of people that I admire greatly; I want to be one of those people who is always doing something for someone else, whether it’s a stranger or a loved one. Because we are taken care of for the most part in America (we don’t have to worry about inner conflicts, wars in our own land, disease epidemics, etc.), we don’t have to worry solely about caring for ourselves, and care for those who need help and are much worse off. The American dream for me is being satisfied enough with my own simple life so that I can go out there and make a positive impact on other people’s lives and, in doing that, bringing more happiness into my own life.
The american dream has been described in many different ways, but for me in paricular the American dream stands for the right to be free and think freely. In America we have clearly reached this goal with all of the diversity that surrounds us today. In some other countries you cannot speak what you are thinking, in most cases, or else you will have to face the consequenses. And you also live in fear of someone corrupting the way you think or feel about a certain topic. We are very lucky to live in a country that allows us to speak our minds without being severly punished. Obviously our country has come a long way to get to the where we are now but all of the strugle and turmoil was entirley worth it.
My version of the american dream is to take advantage of all that the fore fathers fought to give us. Like freedom of speech, assembly, and religion. Anyone can practice any religion they want freely and I think that is what is great about America. People from other countries are able to follow the dreams they would otherwise be persecuted for in their home countries.
My idea of the American Dream is to achieve happiness for the rest of your life. Even though money enables you to buy anything you desire I dont believe that it can make someone truly happy. Many people risk everything they possess in order to live in America where they imagine happiness lies because they can speak freely and choose any career that they desire. These people don't think about what could go wrong, but what they will acquire in the end. My personal American Dream is to live free with my family because I can choose to do whatever I want in life and my family will always support me.
My version of the American dream is finding something your good at and not being afraid to go for it. To be happy with whatever you do. You live long. Love with a lot of passion. Have the most amazing time with the people closet to you. People think that its all about gaining everything, but i agree with Taylor. If you gain everything your really losing yourself. If you just live your life to the fullest and appreciate what you were given then you will go far and thats my American dream.... the life i want to live.
I think the American Dream can mean anything from being able to do all the things you wish to do in life without being held back, to being able to live comfortably and peacefully. I know that my American dream is to get as much out of life as I put into it. In some ways, the American dream can be viewed as a giant vending machine, you only get as much out of it as you put into it. Nothing in live will just be miraculously handed down to you without you putting in some work...
My american dream is to live my life so that I am happy. I hate how people just try to get all A's and try to get into the best colleges to get the best jobs. Thats stupi! That goes with the old saying money can't buy happiness. I try in school but I just want to live every day to its full extent and too enjoy it. Take things as they come. In the future I just want a family, kids, and a job that lets me come home to wife and tell her about how great my day was and have it not matter how much money I make. As long as I live my life, and help others, then I will hae fulfilled my American dream.
I WANNA BE A TOGA WEARING, WINGED GODDESS!...er, god...with silver(or maybe lime-green) eyes that reflect people's auras back at them! And, looking like this, I want to bungee jump off the Hyatte! After landing I will proceed nonchalantly to a tidy, conservative-looking, business woman, probably 40 years of age. I will COMMAND her to: Extricate the maliiiicious intent! Unleash the fury... UNLEASH THE FUUURY!!! And then her eyes shall gleam a scarlet radiance, Besieged by relentless desire, And by a salivating lust for mastication, She will cast her purse at something with hateful fire! Then, triumphant, she will buy a caramel mochiatto from Starbucks. Yes! I will create a glowing ball for everyone to play with! Yes! Then, I shall eat a hot dog and reflect on a donkey's existence. Yes! I will do whatever I want and have fun doing it! Yes Man, I haven't seen it, but I want to! This is not my American Dream, short for: The-American-guy-knows-this -is-not-gonna-come-true-because its-a-PIPE-Dream. This my American Vision! My American delusion is to have this much fun WITHOUT being put in the mental institution.
My version of the American Dream is that everyone has a chance to succed. This means that if a person is capable of doing something they should be allowed to do it no matter what race, nationallity, or religion they are. Also I believe that the American Dream consists of never being afraid of failing while trying to reach your goal.
I feel the American dream is just self satisfaction. It might be just working a job that doesnt pay you the most but you are free and able to support a family and have a relationship with others. I don't think you have to get rich and be a superstar to be living the American dream. Trying to do what you want to do and never giving up that dream and making it possible to happen is also part of the American dream because you can give what you love a shot and if it doesnt work out then you move on. Supporting a family and trying to live out your dream is what I think the American dream is.
Although many people would argue that the american dream is the white picket fence, 2 kids a son and a daughter, a "trophy" wife and a two story house with a grage able to hold the suv, times have changed and the future generation of americans have a different vison of this dream. To the younger, developing croud of americans the american dream isnt about the picket fence and suv its about being yourself like no other country offers and its about doing things that are awesome to you. Honestly this country might be on its way to lazyness but the tides have to change eventually ,and well american kids are feeding of there parent fat(money) kids in other countrys much less fortunate are working thier butts of to get an education and go to better things than they have whitnessed thier parents living. So as the american dream is changing its not neccisarly a bad thing but more of a different thing, no country can be on top forever.
My version of the american dream would have to be living a life full of friends and some money. I don't want anything in excess though because I don't think that life works out that well for people with too much money. Also I whish that no matter who you are, or where you came from you can still have the same oppurtunities. People should get a fair chance at everything and I think that if you are willing to work hard you desirve the benefits. Some times if you work hard then you can achieve this, but I think that a lot of people work hard and still don't get what they desirve. In my american dream i would also like to have all of my family (cousins, aunts, uncles, grandpartents) to live closer to me so I could spend more time with them. Kind of like a big Christmas get together all year round. I just wish that it was possible for every ones dreams to come true.
I think the american dream is different for everybody, its all about how much you gain, but people judge that differently. Is it about the freedom we get, how much money we make or protection we have? A lot of people base the accomplishment of their american dream with the money they make. I think you can become much happier appreciating simpler things.
I think that the american dream is whatever each person wants it to be. Freedom to be able to do what they want. mostly i think people want money. in our world money is power and if your powerful then you can get what you want. Im not saying that everyone is this way, some people just want to start over, rebuild their life. my american dream is to live life and do what i love and be surrounded by friends and family.

I WANNA BE A TOGA WEARING, WINGED
GODDESS!...er, god...with silver(or maybe lime-green) eyes that reflect people's auras back at them!
And then her eyes shall gleam a scarlet radiance,
Besieged by relentless desire,
And by a salivating lust for mastication,
She will cast her purse at something with hateful fire!
This is not my American Dream, short for: The-American-guy-knows-this
-is-not-gonna-come-true-because its-a-PIPE-Dream.
