In today's world you can find puritan thinking and rationalist ideology in government and in some peoples lives. I think that puritan thinking could be a powerful idea of how people should live their lives but its way to radical for me because they basically don't except room for other ideas. When reading up about puritan thinking it impacted me by showing how radical these people are and how true they are to the ideas of puritans. Browsing around the internet about it really did not broaden my world view because it shows their ideas as more of a structure of life like most religions, which isn't really knew to me. Puritan's life structure is essential in puritan peoples life and can not be modified or tampered with, which makes their life more strict and different from other structured ways of life and religions.

I believe that you can find Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology in religion and government in today's world. I think many people live by Puritanical thinking because of it's practice of moral behavior, which I think is important to people in their everyday lives. Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology relate to me on a basic standard, but nothing too extreme.

In today’s world, I see Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology in America’s political system. The United States’ democratic system focuses on people having the opportunity to be self made. It also favors reasonability and rationality as key elements to creating a stable world. This system is similar to Rationalist ideology, which also centers on reason as opposed to dogmatism. However, extremist political parties in America have begun to gain characteristics of Puritanical thinking. Both sides tend to consider only their own party’s opinions. Most extremists refuse to consider or agree with arguments that are outside of their own party lines. This behavior is unproductive and immature, and it causes great frustration when the government tries to solve problems.

Puritanical thinking and rationalist ideology in todays world has become more personal. What I mean by more personal, it that this puritanical thinking is based on our family, friends, and our everyday lives. With all the different people in this world, the puritanical thinking and rationalist ideology is going to fluctuate through out households. For instance, in my household religion is an example of puritanical thinking. And in other households it may not be. Though looking on a broader spectrum I believe every culture brings in puritanical thinking such as the Amendments/laws and also cultural norms speaking as an American citizen. Puritanical thinking and rationalist ideology occur in everyday lives across the world whether it's within ourselves or within our culture.

I think you can find puritan thinking in many religions. In most religions God is always right. Sometimes religion gets blurred into government. I think government is supposed to be a rationalist ideology. It's the rationalist like Ben Franklin that set up our government in the first place.

There are many aspects of todays world that show Rationalist ideas and puritanical thinking. One puritanical example would be the Taliban in Afghanistan. Even though they are not Christian, they are also strickly traditional and strict interpertation of the Koran, much like the puritans did with the Bible. Also another example would be the Christian coalition, where Pat Robertson group was calling for more "Traditional" christian values in our society, such as prayer in school and more conservative religious beliefs. These ideas for me are way to radical. This impacts me because for one the taliban are a terrorist group and they have had a huge impact on this country as they helped Al Qeada in the bombing of the World Trade center. Also, i believe that church and state should be separate, and if the christian coalition got their way, that would not be so.

You can find puritan thinking and rationalist ideology in different religious groups and in government. puritan thinking is evident in religious groups that are more radical. These groups tend to speak more like Jonathan Edwards where they put more emphasis on the pain and suffering a non-believer will experience unless they convert to that religion. Rationalist ideology can be found in government in many of the documents that were by the founding fathers. They believed in a self-made America. I think the puritan thinking is too radical. After reading Jonathan Edwards' work I felt that scaring people into practicing his religion conflicts with everything I have learned about my religion. I like the rationalists way of thinking, that God is accessible to all humans through reason. I also like the deist practice of perfection of self. This relates to how I try and live my life.

You can find Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology in today's world mainly in religions and in governments. Puritans mainly believe that you should only live the way God would want you to live and should not differ; while Rationalist believe 'any view appealing to reason as a source of knowledge or justification'. Puritanical thinking can be found in numerous political systems around the world. In the United States Conservatives and Liberals have contrasting opinions on almost every issue. This Puritanical thinking is, in many ways, ripping the United States apart. I believe it is important to have an opinion, but think it is even more important to come to some kind of agreement. Hopefully the world, especially the United States, will drift far from Puritanical thinking and come together as a nation in order to resolve many issues that are affecting the United States and the world.

Puritanical thinking is seen in the goverment in modern life. Puritans believe that life should follow God and you should live based on how God intended you to live. The American government attempts to follow this. They do not always succeed, but it is clearly their goal, we are "One nation, under God."Obviously Puritanical thinking still exists.

I believe that you can find Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology in todays world. I believe that it is practiced in many places all over the world. However, I don't think it should be in America. I believe in everyone's freedom of speech and opinion, but I think that the United States should stick together as a nation and not disagree and argue with one another like other countries all over the world. I think that a good example would be the conflicts in the Middle East.

You can find puritan thinking and rationalist ideology all over the world. Shirley Phelps is a great example of rationalist ideology. She has said that some people deserved to die because they were not righteous, even children in a hit and run. In many religions there are always people that can push their religion in extreme ways because they believe it is the only way to get other people to believe what they believe. They don't really affect how I view the world. I appreciate their thoughts but if they are really extreme I don't pay much attention to them. So you can find puritan thinking and rationalist ideology pretty much anywhere.

In American life today, Puritanical thinking and rationalist ideology are evident in several ways. Based on puritanical thinking, one may argue that "one nation under God" should be kept in the pledge of allegiance, and “in God we trust” be kept on our currency. Similarly, same gender marriages and medical marijuana should not be allowed, and abortion should not be an option. In American society today, there is a clash between puritanical thinking and rationalist ideology, because the rationalist ideas do not come from the Bible. Rationalists believe that "one nation under God" be deleted from the pledge, abortion and marijuana should be choices, and same gender marriages should be supported just as any other marriage. My beliefs are more aligned to those of the Puritans. "one nation under God" and “in God we trust” should be kept, because putting faith in God is part of my religion. Also, I do not believe same gender marriages should be allowed. Abortion should not be a choice, because if the mother were to have one, she would be taking a life, one of God's creations. Medical marijuana should not be used as a treatment for pain. Although it may relieve pain, it can affect you both mentally and physically. If America were to cut out all religious reference and influence in the government, America would become just another nation and not remain a high power. My worldview, based on countries without foundational Christian/Puritanical religion, is that without the influence, the country is likely to become abusive and chaotic. In other countries, men and women do not have equal rights, ways of punishments are cruel, and the government is corrupt. Without a Christian base, Our government would also become corrupt.

Both rational and puritan thinking are present in our current world. Puritans mostly control the churches, where as rationalists control all government and official offices. Rational people are considered better leaders because common people can trust them to do what is best for the world, not what the church thinks is best. When John F. Kennedy was running for office, his religion was a major issue for voters, as they had never had a Catholic president, and were worried about his decisions and how he might be controlled indirectly by the pope. His reign as president was successful, and he paved the way for other religious places in office.

I believe you can find both Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology in many aspects of today's world. I think there is a more commonality of rationalist ideology because of the proof people want and because it is something they can rely on rather than basing things off of faith like the puritan way of thinking. Puritan ideas are very strict and today we aren't as strict with religion but many things are based upon the same ideas, for example the way they use the bible for direction in life.

Both Puritanical thinking and Rationalist ideology are apparent in the world today. Today in schools and state, religion is separate from government and education. Rationalistic ideas are understood and studied in school. It is really stressed that a personal choice in religion is acceptable and encouraged. In the United States, religion is a personal experience which is determined by the beliefs of an individual, not by the beliefs of the majority. Each individual is allowed the chance to practice their own religion. I think rationalist thinking impacts my life more than Puritanical thinking does. I like to understand facts and scientific evidence. However, I am religious as well. Puritanical thinking is just too set and structured for me. My religious views consist of a balance of Rationalistic thinking and Puritanical thinking. This balance impacts my view on many controversial topics. Sometimes, I'm not sure which side I agree with because I normally find pieces from each argument that match my views.

There is evidence of Puritanical thinking in todays world, we call it religion, there is also evidence of Rationalist thinking, we call this science. There are many people who have strong Puritanical and Rational thoughts in the world today, in many different regions of the world you can see evidence of Puritanical thought in religion. I feel that in America there is a lot more Rationalist thinking than other places in the world because of our advances in science and reasoning.

You can find evidence of puritanical thinking in many religions. For example, some religions are extremely strict and they influence how people live their lives. People, who practice strict religion, are usually very concerned about their morals instead of accepting the reasons of supreme authority. I think that to an extent having puritanical thinking is good to have in your life because it allows your morals to come first and it helps you be the person you want to be.

Today in the world we can find Puritanical and Rationalist ideology every where we turn we just don't have the same outlooks and names as they did in history. Now a days the Puritans are not as radical as Edwards and are also split into several different religions, such as Catholics, Christians, Mormans, and Episcopalian. On the other side of the story there is the Rationalists that are more believing in the cold hard facts found in the science fields.

There is Puritanical thinking and Rationalist idelology apparent in today's world, but not a ton. It is present in religion and government most. There is still the Puritan religion. John Edward seemed like a scary guy to be around, but at the same time a really good man. These religion beliefs do not really impact me because freedom of religion is a right of all Americans. So I can have my own seperate beliefs. Also, after reading the story, I think all religion has become more laid back. Back in the olden days that is all they had, so it was really strict with sins. Now the religion has changed with the times. For example we do not go to church and hear a sermon like John Edwards preached; if we did everyone would leave after the first sentence.

I believe in today's world Puritan thinking and Rationalist ideology lives in many things. It lives in religion in our world. Puritan thinking is based off of tradition that has been passed down. The religion aspect of the Puritans is that the "god" is always right, or the highest power is. This also leads into radical beliefs in certain churches, like what Edward's preached. The government is supposed to be rationalist but sometimes I believe it falls under Puritanical because how strong people believe in their point of view. This connects with my life because I go to a church with many traditions, but i would not categorize it under Puritanical. It affects my world because it affects fellow citizens of mine and their beliefs.

its sad to say but today's world would chew up and spit out puritanistic people because now days the world is so far from moral perfection that someone with these views or goals in life would be labeled a social out cast. now days there are people who don't care about right and wrong, good and bad but people who care about what they want right then and there. but who really knows what they want then and if that will be beneficial down the road. ratialistic views are hard to come by now days because us as Americans are so close to the middle that we reject anyone left or right of us. this is why we will never really find puritanistc or radical thinking in are lives.
