Scott Fitzgerald was influenced by his father a lot early in life. His dad was fired one day and became a failure the rest of his life. Scott decided that he would never be like his dad, and this inspired him to work really hard to be successful. In school, his stories were very well liked, so he decided to pursue it as a career. He really developed a strong passion for writing, but struggled with a drinking problem. He was poor and faced a lot of difficulties, but was still able to write a novel that would go down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
Irish catholic boy, St. Paul
His father failed and Fitz wanted to not be like his father. I kinda noticed that Fitz's passion didn't really change from when he first started into it. Most people will have a hard time deciding what to do and which passion to follow
Funny that he was cut from football on the first day. Did that fuel his passion for doing something not physically? He had a drinking problem. He failed a ton of classes which I find interesting. He enlisted for WW1. He wrote "this side of paradise" sold out by the end of the day. At 23 years old. Zelda and Fitz got back together after his success and had a baby. i would be curious if having a kid in his real personal life effects his writing and themes possibly and if it does than how might that sound
Scott Fitzgerald grew up in a rough household, and had no desire to be like his father. He was Catholic and went to prep schools, but felt like an outsider. However, he found it easy to write stories, poems, plays, and other forms of literature which was one of his strong gifts. He used this gift to grab the attention and acceptance from his classmates. He also took the starting role of a play. He began to gain social acceptance. He was also accepted into Princeton and was admired by his classmates, as he would always use his writing to impress others. Unfortunately, Fitzgerald showed early signs of drinking problems. He ended up failing so many classes that he was forced to withdraw from Princeton. Although he struggled from issues such as alcoholism, he decided to pursue a career in writing because of his strong passion for the subject and because of his talent with it.
In his early life, Scott Fitzgerald was influenced by his father a lot. One day, his dad was fired from his job and became a failure. Scott decided then that he never wanted to be a failure like his dad, which inspired him to work really hard to be successful. In school, people liked his stories a lot, so he decided that he wanted to write for a career. His passion for writing was developed to be very strong, but he also developed a drinking problem. He was poor and was faced with a lot of problems, but he still could write a novel that is known to be one of the best in history.
Fitzgerald allows many of his experiences to find there way into his novels and they often reflect where he is at in his life. In schools, he excelled and found his place by writing and using poetry. Later in his life, he always was seeking glory and fame. This led him to enlist for WWI, and when frustrated with his lack of combat experience, he threw himself into his writing to become famous as an author. Fitzgerald also was able to win over Zelda when he proved his worth as an author. This is similar to Gatsby's fascination wit Daisy and his attempts to prove his worth to her.
Fitzgerald was interested in writing early on, and one of his influences was his father. He felt like an outsider and used his writing to try and fit in. He wrote stories, plays, poems, etc. He would then write and act in plays. He went to Princeton, but ended up dropping out because he failed most of his classes. He then became an alcoholic, but settled down with a girl and pursued his writing career. Him and his wife liked living the lavish and party lifestyle. The Great Gatsby didn't take off at first and got bad reviews, but later on it got very popular.
earing about fitzgerald's life shows me that he didn't come for the easiest back round, he also took a different past than most in life considering that he was accepted into princeton and then proceeded to drop out, along with this he also experienced heartbreak many times and had to deal with that this was a challenge for him but also gave him a lot of inspiration for his new books. This was the reason his book got so famous so quickly witch was also the reason he was able to marry the love of his life, because she wanted someone who was rich. Quikly after they were married they had a daughter and fitzgerald continued to write. Witch paid for there extremely extravagant lifestyle. After a while the fitzgeralds got out of hand and fitzgerald developed a drinking problem. He published great gatsby and it did not do well at all quickly after he met Hemmingway witch would soon challenge him to become a better writer. After many years of marriage Fitzgerald watched Zelda loose her mind she was diagnosed as a schizophrenic. When he was 40 there was an article published saying he was a pathetic loser. Even at his lowest pint he was offered a job as a film writer. He was able to turn his drinking problem around during this time he met Sheila. Quickly after they met they began getting very close and he ended up having an affair with her. At this time he was still writing films and he got his screen credit on one film although he hated it. He lost his job and went back to drinking. He went though many hardships in his life and I think through this film we learned that his life was not as glamorous as it seemed.
After watching the A&E Fitzgerald video, I noticed that he was very devoted to his writing. He started writing very early on and most of his writing was influenced by his father. While he was writing he would use the books to try and fit in because he never really did in his real everyday life. As time went on he started to become an alcoholic and his writing started to slow down until he met a girl who he ended up marrying. This helped him start writing again, so when The Great Gasby didn’t get good reviews the first time he was upset until it finally became popular during the war.
After watching the A&E Fitzgerald video, I have realized that he was very dedicated to his writing. His writing portrayed his feelings through his writing. He began as a young age and wrote about hardships he had endured. He had so many personal moments in his life that it is shown to in his writing. It adds to the detail he is able to go in while writing. The detail that was able to be added really showed the way he had lived and how his experiences shaped him. His experiences shaped the way he is and the way he writes greatly.
I have noticed that Fitzgerald's passion for writing greatly influenced his personal life. He always brought his personal issues into his books. I also noticed how he had a passion to be noticed. Whether it was to be a war hero, or a famous author. I think that his lack of being known may have led to his drinking problems. I also think that a good amount of his personal issues were because of his drinking issues.
After learning more about Fitzgerald I would say that he is very passionate towards his writing but maybe even more so passionate about being known and making his own legacy. I think that he translates a lot of his own troubles and ideas into his work, one of which being that he wants to be known. I think we see this play out a little in Gatsby because he is first off writing about rich people but also there is this theme in the writing about the nobility in trying. Overall I think that his hardships and experiences both shaped Fitzgerald as well as his writing.
Through this first part of this video I have come to learn quite a lot about Fitzgerald. Even through the first few lines it is very easy to see that he was a very troubled person. He once said, "Give me a hero, and I'll write you a tragedy," which is almost a tragic quote. It really shows how much Fitzgerald really was struggling with his mental health. From a young age he was taught how to dress and act like a gentlemen which most children his age didn't know how to do. As a more poor boy he was outcast at his prep school, but he learned that his writing was a way that he could connect with them. It really relates back to his quote because he seems to be a hero in many people's eyes, but he viewed himself as a tragedy probably because of his alcoholism.
