Most photos I saw were from the WWII era through the civil rights movement. Most were of protests, or hard times, much more than that of celebration. I saw several for women's rights, as well as minorities' rights, with some new techs, like 3d movies. There were others of celebration if just a few.
I observed some very big parts of American History. There were definitely some good ones and some bad ones including the I Had A Dream speech at the Washington Monument or the Women's Rights protest so women could vote. Some pictures definitely made me proud of our history and some made me think about how it was wrong what we were doing back in the day. I also observed that we aren't a perfect society, and we have done a lot of good things in our history and a lot of bad things too.
From the pictures I looked at it seemed as if all these pictures were during the prohibition period and everyone was suffering without alcohol. These pictures also could mean a whole bunch of different history events that happened in the past, there were a couple pictures about the great depression, there was also a 9/11 picture. These images made me feel like I was there living the events that were in the photo. We have lost a lot of things from what happened in these photos but we have also gained a lot like a stronger government, and economy. These photos show the events and spirit of America, like it or not this happened it shows who America is and what has happened to us.
I saw that they were various memories and items that might have been a part of someone's life. They made me think about the time that all of this happened. They are things that got created or happened around that timeframe. We know what we did wrong or we learned from mistakes and made the world better, like with 9/11, we made security denser and more thorough at the airport. We have lost many lives ad buildings. The American spirit is subjective, it could be something entirely different for the next guy. It is some things that recently did happen in America though. I would suppose that if I didn't live in America, this would help me understand what we're all about, but for me, I'm already aware that these things have already happened.

There was one picture that was of children who were forced to work late into the night. They had no food or water and were forced to be out later than everyone else and had to keep working. It made me feel sad because those kids were very young and didn’t deserve to be out there without food or water. This was the beginning of child labor which shows how much has changed and how much has not changed. There are still many places that have child labor and think it’s essential.
While we looked at these pictures I noticed a lot of detail from each picture. I observed struggle, hardship, and adversity. Some ways I noticed struggle was through “the lady typewriters”, they went through this struggle because they were profiled because they were females. As a result of this, their lunch breaks were only 15 minutes long which is not what men received. I observed hardship through the twin towers bombing. This bombing left a lot of people without family, which is the biggest hardship a person can go through. I observed adversity through the black man having to drink out of the colored water fountain. Racism was and still is one of the biggest issues America faces and is the reason this man had to drink out of a different fountain. This picture strongly demonstrates adversity through the racial profiling of water fountains. These pictures I observed clearly demonstrated hardship, struggle, and adversity.
The things that I observed are that most of the pictures are big events and some small events. They show that the suffering of american history can produce and make a great nation when everyone is united and helps each other out. The reasons that these pictures show how we have become a strong nation is because they show how the suffering and the amount of people who gave their life to make it a better place and it worked.

I observed that some photos were dated back to over a century ago, before the civil war. There was still slavery and the agriculture did not look developed to where it is today.
The images made me feel grateful for where I am today, living in the age of the photos would have been much worse with racial injustice and with the manual labor overload.
They started the american dream, the martin luther speech and women fighting for voting rights represented today's american dream. They used their creativity to start our agriculture filled society that we have today.
We gained equality, the photos showed only white men had rights, but today everybody had rights so America has found success through struggle.
We have not lost much, but we mainy lost our old ways of life. It is a good loss that everybody benefitted from.
Yes they do embody the American spirit as it shows people fighting for change and freedom, and freedom is what makes America great.
Yes it does, seeing people fight for what they believe in shows exactly what it means to be American.
This can create change.

These pictures show how many unexpected hurdles Americans have faced. No one expected the polio outbreak, with affected over 60,000 children and killed 3,000 people, no one expected Amelia Earhart to disappear, or for 9/11 to happen. The unexpected and mysterious occurrences that the american people have had to adapt to, shape the fabric of american life. Our history is a cake recipe of disaster, triumph, change, and hatred.

The photos that I looked at showed the struggle that people have faced in the past in America. But with the struggle some of the pictures also showed how people kept pushing on and fighting. A picture I saw that showed people fighting was an image of MLK marching with people and them fighting for their rights.

Many of the photos contained many crowds who are working or protesting to make america better for them and the rest of America. Many of the other pictures included bad days in American history such as before D-day or 9/11. Many of these changed life as we know it today because it ended segregation and fixed many other issues within American life.
All of the images were in black and white, and I thought that was purposeful because it adds a tone to the image making it seem sad or impactful. Most of the images made me feel sad because so many were images of crisis, like war or the stock market crash. I think they shape american life today and back then as a reminder of the events that have occurred and had large effects on the majority of the population of the country. I think we have lost the fun of life, throughout history it has been proven that people are more likely to be depressed. I think history has an effect on the joy of the public by knowing more and experiencing more. I think it causes a loss of imagination and joy in the simple things.
I observed that the culture and way that the average person lived is very different than what it is now. For example women still didn’t have very many rights and were starting to push more for things like voting. Black people were also much more heavily discriminated against with way less rights. We’ve gained a lot more equality for people of all races and gender since these times. There’s still dsicrimination both with the government/law and especially socially, but it’s much more fair than it was back then.
I observed a gallery of photos that portrayed what it means to be an American. They made me feel both proud and ashamed to be an American. We have figured out our morals as a country and modernized to find our place in the world. We have lost the middle class and the American dream through finding our place as a country that values intelligence over work ethic. These photos show the struggle to be an American and the dream of being an American. We have created a strong moral code and capitalistic base that is good for some and bad for others.

One picture that I looked at was Martin Luther King Jr. marching with a group of people. In the group there was a younger boy who was white and he was holding a sign that was really meaningful. This picture is obviously showing the civil rights movement which was a very important time in America. America as a country gained so much from this movement and it has changed the country for the better. Although racism hasn’t disappeared in America this movement was a big stepping stone in that direction.

The images that I looked at all seemed to show different time periods in the United States mostly throughout the 1900’s. If it wasn’t a picture of the event or movement itself it was a picture of something that was a part of that which I think is interesting that there are pictures that you take one look at and you know what it is showing in history.
The images shape the fabric of American life because it gives us little glimpses into how things throughout our time as a country have been changed. Not only that they have been changed but also how they were changed and the sacrifices made for the changes to come on.

I observed a lot of historical events and people reacting in certain ways to these events. I wanted to answer the question of what have we lost from these historical events. In a lot of these wars and 9/11 and events like that the main thing we have lost are our people. Our people have gotten killed and murdered while living in our country where they should feel safe. In 9/11 a bunch of innocent people who were working were killed. African american people were discriminated against just for the color of their skin. None of these events needed to happen, but they all helped shape our country into how we are. We have overcome a lot even though we have lost a lot as well.
I observed that most of the photos were from the 1900’s before a lot of people had rights specifically women. This was a time of war and there was a split between our country as to if those people should be able to vote. Women were finally allowed to vote in 1920. I think that some of these pictures embody the American spirit because people are standing up for themselves and fighting for their country and rights. These were pictures of wars and protest that show how the people are standing up for themselves which shaped our country because we all have the right to believe what we want and to speak out about what you believe in.

The photos that I saw were of people during the civil rights movement and all of the struggles that they faced including racism, sexism, and discrimination. Seeing these things made me sad because people really struggled during these times and it was probably very hard to get through. Even though this point in history was very rough, it really shaped were America is today and we wouldn't be where we are without all of the suffering.

The photos that I looked at showed two things, one was the fight and struggle for their "American dream" and the others showed how prosperity was shown throughout all of America. Which showed an interesting contrast. These pictures do embody the American spirit because they show the struggle for our dreams and the joyfulness that comes at the end of the fight.
How did they shape the fabric of American life?
All of these pictures have shaped American life in some way but the ones that I really think that have made a big impact on American life are most of the segregation pictures. I observed one picture where there was an African American man drinking out of a water fountain labeled 'colored'. Segregation was a huge part of history and I feel the American life now would be completely changed now if segregation never existed. I feel like it would change American life now for the better.
While looking at the pictures I observed that they were all of important events, both good and bad, in history. Some of the images made me feel happy/proud while others were the opposite. They shape the fabric of American life by showing who we are as a nation and how far we have come. Some of them show struggles that we have had to overcome as well as our achievements. We have gained new nationwide and worldwide perspectives, improved individuals quality of life, have a new perspective/way of safety, ect. We have lost many Americans in our journey through history as well ideas, beliefs, and ways of life. Every piece of American history is what makes the US what it is today. These photos help us see the struggles and success from a first person perspective of how events impacted our ancestors.
