I noticed in a picture how instead of a medicine or treatment for someone who has polio they put them in a machine called the iron lung that basically breathed for the person. BeckettP

To all of these images they have one major and kind of obvious theme connecting them all together, with it being that this is progression and history of America. Unedited, uncensored, and straight from the source. Many of these photos are from the American period between the mid 1920s to the late 1960s, which was a very tense and scary point in time for America. The stock market crashed, people were homeless and hungry, and there was going to be a war. Even after the war tension stayed with the cold war coming in and lots of strong racial tension keeping people unrested. All of this was real, and even present in some areas in the modern day. America is always about change, for better or for worse.

I saw a lot of pictures involving technology, especially new technology for the time period. The pictures show improvements and the way that technology changed lifestyles. For example, cars changed the lives of Americans in the 50s. It allowed them to live outside the city in suburbs, and travel further to work.

I saw that there were a lot of tragedies that happened a while ago. I saw photos of poverty, 9-11, the KKK, and a lot more. There were also happy photos though, like people gathering around for finishing a plane, and loved ones coming home from war. It is definitely a mix of emotions with all of these photos but they all show specific and important snapshots of history and what other people went through years ago.

I can tell that a lot of these have shown a lot of change through the years and how we got here. They showed the veterans fighting for our freedom. Almost all of these problems have evolved into learning from our mistakes. Some things are still going on in small doses and we are still learning from our mistakes.

I was able to come across the picture of American men fighting in the Vietnam War. It was a good picture to look at to remind us Americans of how proud we should be to live in this country. It was a very sad picture, but it always brings us back to how lucky we all are for the people who go to war as well. -MarinD

I could see where some of the American Literature came from, such as the picture of the Great Depression that lead to the Grapes of Wrath being written, and where other pieces like that came from. I can also see problems that started a long time ago, and still haven't been solved today; such as modern medicine is still advancing in many forms, economic recessions still happen and hang people out to dry, protests and fights for people's rights still happen.

I observed several pages with the history of 1800's America. Some of the images intrigued me, and I liked reading about the history behind them. And some made me feel more disturbed. These images represent when a big change was happening for the country. Ones that helped shape the culture or low of the country. We've gained movements whose effects are still lasting today. These events also represent the idea that America stands for freedom of speech, and the right to fight for it.

i observed that most of the pictures were from the past and the hard times. the images don't make me fell anything. they shape the fabric of american life cause they sort of taught us the wrongs and rights. we have lost some of the ways to respect different peoples culture and there religion. they do not embody the american spirit.

I saw that a lot of the pictures were old. Most of the images were of important events in history. They made me feel happy for some because there were great things and sad because there were bad things. There was MLK protesting and that was sad because he was being discriminated against because of his skin color. There were also war photos which were sad because there were dead people and war is sad.

These pictures made me think of how much things have changed since the time they were taken. Things are so much different now then they were back then.

One of the pictures on my desk has a caption that said it was of a Hooverville in Seattle, which I remember talking about in my History class as a freshman. I feel bad for the people who experienced homelessness during that time.

A picture looked like it was a bunch of woman peacefully protesting for their right to vote and i think it is kind of still going on today. Women did get the right to vote but a lot of people, not just women, are still fighting for equality through peaceful protesting. Brooke H

I could see a lot of picture that had to deal with human rights. There were pictures that had to deal with issues of race and pictures that had to deal with women rights. These pictures show me how far we have come as a society sense these pictures where taken and how far we still have to go. A lot of the fights that were shown in these pictures are still happening today, and after over 100 years of these fights it makes you wonder why hasn't these issues stopped yet? - JuliaO

As I was walking around there were a bunch of different types of pictures. All the pictures seemed to have a sad theme to them. But a bunch of the movements ended major things. Some of the pictures showed the end of slavery, some should the ending of racism. Then I saw a picture of 9/11 and that made me think about what it did for America. But 9/11 caused Americans to come together and unite against terrorism. Another photo I saw was about the Vietnam war and that kind of just shows what certain people are doing to keep our country safe.

Most of the pictures I saw were about imigration and black rights or war. A lot of it represented the 1900's when the world wars were happening and LMK was giving speeches.
Some of theses events are still happening now days aswell. - Jace Swafford

Many of the pictures I looked at were taken during the Great Depression. The scenes in the pictures looked desolate and hopeless. OliverH
