If anything, what did A Man Named Pearl make you contemplate? Quotes? Thoughts Reflection? Critique? Please finish this blog response by 2:30p.m. on Friday.
After watching A Man Named Pearl it made me think about my future. I thought it was really interesting when they were interviewing the college kids that wanted to be artists, and they were saying things like, “It makes me feel good to see someone like Pearl, because it shows that you don’t have to worry about how good you did in school or scores you got on certain tests.” I feel the same way because it does give you some reassurance that you don’t always have to worry about score, and tests, and grades. Pearl wasn't the best in school but it didn't matter to him because he is now doing what he loves and he lives a happy life. Being a junior in high school, sometimes life can feel hectic because you constantly need to keep your grades up and do well on important test like the ACT or the SAT. But if you just stop and relax, and take a breather, life will be so much better because your whole life isn't dependent on this one year or on that one test, and Pearl Fryar is a great example of that.
After watching " A Man Named Pearl" I began to think about my passions. For Pearl, he cares about nature and his plants. I began to wonder about what my passions were and how I could some how spend the rest of my life doing what I love like Pearl does. After watching this I was inspired. Pearl beat the odds that were put up against him. Pearl didn't let things such as racism or money bring him down, he found a way to do what he loved no matter what. I hope that as I grow older I will get to do something I love everyday like Pearl.
After watching A Man Named Pearl I was inspired to make a difference. Peal showed that even the simplest passion, such as gardening, can be made into beautiful art. If makes me appreciate the beauty in the little things in life. Also it makes me want to make a difference in my community as Pearl did. Although I have no skill as a gardener, I have loved to do art since a young age and after watching the film I feel that I should use my artistic talents to inspire others. I could do this by posting my art somewhere in the community, or even helping out with children's art lessons. Pearl has a real gift and he shows how one can use there talents to influence and inspire others to do what they love.
After watching "A Man Named Pearl" I had to think about what I am doing in my life. Once I saw how big that Pearl got for doing what he loves I had to think about the things I love. In my life theatre is the most important activity that I do daily and I would love to go into film one day. After watching this movie I know I can do anything as long as I work at it and don't give up until I won. I never really thought that I had a chance to make it into film because it is a really hard profession to get into. Even though it is still hard to get started I am going to try anyway and I hope that someday it will be grateful for putting a ton of work into want I want.
As I was watching A man named Pearl, I was trying to decide what my passions are. Then it hit me, you cant think of what you're passionate about. It kind of just hits you. As of now, I'm passionate about my friends and family, not a hobby or an activity just yet. Down the road, I hope to be passionate about something, and then I can work hard on what I love. Going to a nice high school, and a great college, I need to do my best to get good grades. The past 8 months, I've been focused strictly on my G.P.A and on my ACT/ Final exams, etc. My life is surrounded by grades at this point. Which is why this quote calmed me down a bit, “It makes me feel good to see someone like Pearl, because it shows that you don’t have to worry about how good you did in school or scores you got on certain tests.” This helped me realize that school is only about 16 years of your life.... we can live the rest of our lives doing what we're passionate about. As long as I am happy and surrounded with the people that I love, I will do just fine.
Watching the documentary "A Man Named Pearl" made me contemplate the idea of determination. Everything that is worthwhile takes immense amounts of time, every skill worth learning takes intense practice, and most people get discouraged early on. I was thinking, "The beginnings of this garden must have been so uneventful," while watching the film. Think about it - for the first couple years he was trimming small trees formatting them to grow in the fashion he intended so they would suit his plan a decade later. That's true determination, I'm sure most people would give up very early on. Especially when pursuing a passion that doesn't have income. Determination is the true driving factor of the American Dream.
After seeing this film it made me realize you can make something so simple as a tree and turn it into something beautiful. Pearl has made me think about what my passions are, but it also made me realize I don't know what I want to do with my life. Pearl is truly living the American Dream. He is doing something that makes him happy and he doesn't care about the money or the fame or what others think. He just does what he is passionate about. We should learn that we need to do what we are passionate about and it doesn't matter what others say. DO you what you enjoy and let no one stop you.
Watching A Man Named Pearl put perspective in my life. It made me realize I have to pursue my dreams regardless of what they might be. Pearl showed me that working your hardest and putting your whole heart into something embodies the greatest fulfillment in life. You could tell by the way people talked about him and the way he was that he was truly happy. Another thing Pearl made me think about in life is how constantly we put too much value in the battles in our life that are arbitrary and obsolete. We do not look at the whole and we think that failing one test will define our life, when in the scheme of the long run, it really doesn't matter, from a character stand point. It is far better to be virtuous than prosperous.
While watching A Man Named Pearl, it made me question if I am really doing what makes me happy. Am I doing the sports that make me happy? Am I going to go into the career that will make me happy? Pearl put his heart and soul into his garden and it did not matter if it was day or night, it made him happy so he worked on it. Throughout the whole movie he always looked satisfied with what he accomplished in his life and wanted to share it with everyone. When people came to his garden not one person left without a smile on their face because Pearl would not let them leave unhappy or insecure about what they could achieve. This film leaves everyone believing in themselves, telling them that they can do anything if they set their mind to it, and Pearl shows us just how happy we can be living our dreams too.
What stood out to me most in the documentary “A Man Named Pearl” was Pearl’s ability to inspire others. Though his artwork was amazing in itself, I noticed that his greatest accomplishment was his positive effect on those around him. It was shown that as his garden grew, his neighbors decided to participate in the unique skill. Though none of their gardens could compare to Pearl’s, they could all admire his work though their own gardens. Through this all, Pearl remained humble and admired the work of his friends. This characteristic of Pearl was so important to the story. He showed humility and grace, while serving others through his spectacular work.
After watching "A Man Named Pearl", I thought about what I wanted to do in my future. I thought about why I wanted to do something, and if it would actually be something that I enjoyed. Pearl inspired me to find something to do in my life that I truly enjoy. Some people work at jobs that they dread going to, but the only reason they stay is the money that they make. Pearl doesn't even care about the money he makes. He just started doing something he enjoyed. This makes me think about what I have planned for my future and if it is something I really want.
This documentary helped me to realize that no matter where you come from in life you'll always have hardships (Pearl Fryer). Its what you do with these hardships that matters. Pearl comes from a modest family in a modest town and he made something incredible out of absolutely nothing but some old scrap plants. I guess what the documentary is trying to say is, you can make a name for yourself if you want it bad enough, and have a serious passion for what you wish to accomplish.
The Documentary we watched "A Man Named Pearl" stood out to me because he did what he loved and didn't care what other people thought of it. People originally didn't even want him moving into the neighborhood because of a ridiculous stereotype, they didn't think he would take care of his yard. He ended up doing the exact opposite, he made his yard so beautiful that people from all over the world want to go and see it. That is just really inspirational to me. That basically tells me if I want to do something, I need to do it to my best ability, and put my whole heart into what I'm passionate about. I can't let other people put me down. People should really learn from Pearl that they can stand up and prove people wrong. If you have a passion, don't give up!
"A Man Named Pearl" inspires us all to chase our dreams and do what makes us happy. So often we tend to forget what makes us happy because society wants us to go to school and make as much money as we can -- nowhere in that plan says anything about being happy or prosperous in ways other than financially. Pearl assures that if we do what we have a passion for, the money will be of no issue. This is inspiring and somewhat of a breath of fresh air in our era that defines "success" in terms of money.
After viewing "A Man Named Pearl", I began to think about how I will try to accomplish something great. Althiugh I havent found my passion, I know it will always be there. Pearl Fryar started his journey to accomplishment when a neighborhood didnt accept his race and had an accusation that he couldnt keep his yard up. I think that his lesson he teaches everyone is to never believe any accusations and to prove people wrong. Kids need too realize that what someone says about you isnt true and you can do anything if you just put your mind to it. Pearl Fryar never listened to any of those people and went out and made something great, unique and inspiring.
“People from the horticulture world come to my garden, and the first thing they would say: ‘You shouldn't be able to do that.’ And then I would say to them, ‘I didn't know that.’ — Pearl Fryar. A simple but empowering quotes sets standards for any American dream. When Pearl first started his garden, I’m sure his neighbors and community thought he was delusional. Not to mention how much drive and patience it took to build his garden from junk and scrap plants. What’s important is that Pearl started something. He didn’t sit back and let society mold his happiness. Pearl sets standards for the American dream because he doesn’t just settle for anything less than amazing. What I took away from watching this film was to seize the quote “Find what you love and let it kill you.”
A Man Named Pearl put perspective in your life about finding my passion in life, and loving what you do. Pearl had a passion for topiary art. He put his heart and soul into making his topiary art the best that could. He was passionate about topiary art, and creating it made him happy. Pearl figured out that doing what you love will make you happy in life. This documentary inspires me to find my passion in life.
After watching A Man Named Pearl, I begin thinking about my future. Pearl didn’t ever think he had a future until he started his own garden. After he started his garden he knew that there was something in it for him. After he became so successful in his Garden trimming, it made me think about how he did something that he never had any special training in. He just did something he wanted to do without even knowing that much about it. It make me think about college. I don’t really want to go to college and maybe I don’t now! Pearl has inspired me to start something that I might not have much experience in but gradually get better at!
After watching "A man named Pearl" It showed me to have a mind set. do what makes you happy, and when you set goals and accomplish those goals you get a fulfillment on life because your doing what makes you happy and completing goals to take it to the next level in your life. Pearl didn't care what anybody had to say or do; he set his goal and through time created a masterpiece from nothing showing that anything can be accomplished if you truly believe it can.
After watching "A man named Pearl" I saw the importance and value in pursuing your dreams. Doing something you enjoy and that makes you happy is much better than doing something that you hate for the money. Pearl showed that even though his garden was a hobby, if you keep that interest as a focus, then your life will be much better. It was good inspiration for me to follow my dreams and work at getting better as time goes on.
Watching the documentary "A Man Named Pearl" made me reconsider the meaning of determination. Everything that is worth doing takes time and persistance most people get discouraged early on. I was thinking, "The beginnings of this garden must have been so uneventful,"when watching the film. For the first couple years he was trimming small trees and planning there growth years in advance. It is a prime example of intense determination, most people would give up within the year. Especially when its only a hobby that doesnt receive money. Determination and persistance are key factors to success.
Watching the film A Man Named Pearl make me contemplate my passions. He was so passionate about what he does that he would work on his gardens all night and he never seemed to get tired of them. His life is all about what he loves to do. Most of my time is spent on school work and if not that I spend my time at dance practice. The movie made me realize that I wouldn’t be spending so much time on my school work, studying, getting help when I need it, or dancing if I didn’t love it as much. I get really stressed some days that I don’t have enough time to finish everything, but I always manage to do so. Just like Pearl, if I wasn’t in love with what I was doing I wouldn’t do it.
After watching, "A man named Pearl," I have contemplated what is most important in life. I have concluded that doing what makes you happy, regardless of the income is the best way to live. It is inspiring that even though people judge him and think he's strange, he continues to do what he loves which is topiary design. Even though he doesn't get paid, he gets enough reward knowing that he can inspire other people to pursue their passions.
