The vivid description of the forest and the mountains are a distinct characteristic that defines Rip Van Winkle as a Romantic piece of literature. There seems to be a sense of yearning for the outdoors. We can avidly see that the satire represents the contrast of the change that society undergoes but nature does not.
We can learn how elements of satire can be used in an otherwise serious writing with great effectiveness. In this text, their is many characteristics of romanticism, such as the great detail he shares about the forest. He does more than just describes the scenery, but offers an insight into symbolic meaning behind nature. We learn that the main charter is able to connect more with nature and is able to connect with the wilderness around him.
The element ans satire showed in Rip Van Winkle can teach us about Rip and the things he was interested in. Everything was based in the nature and that's where he spent most of his time. Romanticism was displayed from his family when they were hunting or together in a society. His family was inspired by the nature and showed good imagination in the things they did.
This wonderful short story offers a great way to look into the the characteristics of change. The greatest part of this story is to find that Rip doesn't except the change at first and is pushed through the village. The satire of the relationships is awesome, it shows the comical side of a lazy man and his nagging wife. The big point I think Washington is trying to make is that change is inevitable.
We can learn a lot from the elements of satire in Rip Van Winkle, such as how to write with phenomenal visualization. He describes the forest and mountains in great detail and allowing us to visualize it for ourselves. Once he had us create this area for ourselves, he displays romanticism by creating meaning in this space.
Rip Van Winkle could be under the umbrella of Romanticism because it is and artistic approach at describing the effects of time travel. Also, the elements of satire in the story are shown by the humorous relationship Rip has with his wife and how the government changing since the last time he was in town is exaggerated.
In the text Rip Van Winkle shows all the points of view in a romantic way of thing through detailed descriptions of life. The story is very abstract and requires a great amount of attention to understand. The deeper thinking easily will cause all of us to rethink our own way of thinking.
What we can learn from Rip Van Winkle, is the idea of romanticism and freely thinking. For example, in the text we had seen the idea of romanticism when he started talking about the super natural and how he had seen supernatural characters. This causes me to think about how we get caught up in our own thoughts and seem to get distracted from what life really is. I say this because Rip Van Winkle had gotten caught up in his thoughts with the super natural and the people in his town and had gotten distracted from his family and what was truly important to him.
The vivid description of the surroundings that he lives in, really places an image into your mind as too what Rip Van Winkle is thinking. Rip is confused when he wakes up to an unfamiliar world where he awakens 20 years in the future. We see the satire in how society undergoes a drastic change, for the better, while nature stays the same.
We can learn how satire can be used to make our writing more interesting. It was easy to sit down and read this story with humor. I found myself remembering more of the story then the others because i was involved and feeling though the reading which made it less difficult to remember. The relationship between him and his wife showed a romantic funny "average" husband wife relationship.

After reading this text, I noticed many times where romanticism was used. For example when Rip was describing his feelings for the nature. Also in this story satire was used. I really enjoyed the satire as it provided some humor and made the text a lot more enjoyable to read. This story was very pleasant to read because of all of the elements used.
I think satire was considered satire as shown i Rip Van Winkle in the Romanticism period of the 16th and 17th Century because the idea of time travel and majestic scenery was quite absurd and "out of the ordinary" for that time. People found it funny that a story could be so out of the ordinary and that is what makes good literature great. The story includes great detail of landscape and emphasizes the xandu like environment unlike reality
We can learn a very important lesson from Rip Van Winkle. In the story Rip is placed into a very new and different village than the one he knew before he went into the forest. This is a massive change for him and rather than panic about and not accomplish anything. Rip seeks for answers and to find people he knows. This can be applied to my life, I need to learn not to resist change but instead embrace it.

Rip Van Winkle tells the story of man who has slept through the entire Revolutionary war. The story pokes fun at many things. It pokes fun at not only the way an old, lay man functions with his wife and society but also the change that America experienced from the start of the Revolution to after. The story is romantisim for multible reasons. First of all, a man can not fall asleep for 20 years in the forest, he surely would not live through it. Also, the story is based on nature. Not only real nature but also the nature of a man and society.
The satirical elements shown in Rip Van Winkle creates a sort of comic relief in a serious situation. It definitely got me to think because it was a really cool, unique story. The romanticism characteristics in the story is displayed by incredible descriptions of nature. It is cool that he is able to connect to the nature and wilderness that surrounds him.
There is much to be learned on the subject of change in Rip Van Winkle. When Rip finds himself 20 years in the future, nothing in nature has changed, whereas the village and people have changed drastically, and mostly for the better. This can be interpreted to show how rapidly people and humans are changing and improving.
Nothing relevant.
If you care about it, maybe. For me, no.
I don't care and it's not important. When I read, I don't care what style if writing it is, I only care if I enjoy what I'm reading, especially with fiction.
Rip Van Winkle has a great sense of adventure. He always wants to explore the outdoors, and I share similar desires. He is never satisfied with what he has, but instead he wants to explore what he has not yet seen, felt, heard, or smelled. I love his attitude and I try to have the same one
The satire was almost everything like his wife, the village, people's behavior and thoughts. The romantic is the mountain. This Romanticism is the values feeling and intuition over reason was that Rip Van Winkle felt so overwhelmed and chaos about the change of everything.
We can learn that elements of satire and change are ones to be noted and studied. Although satirical humor makes fun of something, it often portrays a deeper problem or issue. In this case the post revolutionist society. This umbrella of romanticism prompts us to think because it pressures us into thinking about change, as seen in the 20 year time difference of Rip's sleep. Some of the romanticism characteristics that are included in the text include the make believe world that Rip has a vision of. It is through this element that the author makes us question certain ideas.
I believe the satire within the story of Rip Van Winkle can teach us that life moves quickly and things change fast, and that we should take time to slow down to enjoy the way things are. This is related to the aspect of romanticism in the story, because Rip tries to do just that and the beauty of nature is emphasized.
The satire of the story of Rip Van Winkle is that life will always change and how we choose to acknowledge it is up to us. Rip embraces change and I try to be like him and embrace it in my life. He is very descriptive throughout the story. He uses great detail to describe the outdoors and he really makes you feel like you are actually there. I think he is trying to show us that nature changes everyday and it is a beautiful thing.
The elements of satire are exhibited in Rip Van Winkle by subtly focusing in the environmental changes we tend to overlook. The attention to detail in nature is vividly portrayed, which plays an import role in expressing romantic themes. Romanticism is displayed throughout the story, and sense of escape from civilization and responsibility. Freedom and imagination are exhibited
