"You Mean I'm Supposed To Stand On That?"
This political cartoon connects with the events in the Crucible because it shows how the events are similar to McCarthyism. The paint buckets of political smear are similar to the outlandish claims made by Abigail and the other girls, and the elephant is the defendant, the one who has to stand on top of all the blackmail and treachery and try to tell the court they are innocent. McCarthyism was similar to the events in the Crucible because they both fed off mob mentality and hysteria; the people of Salem were all afraid of the devil and witches, and America during the Cold War was afraid of the Communists (The Red Scare). In order to save their own backs, everyone was accusing each other of being in line with the devil and practicing witchcraft, or being a Communist and supporting the Soviet Union.
"Wrong Number"
This political cartoon relates to the main reason of conflict in Arthur Miller's The Crucible. The cartoon explains how during the Red Scare, wiretapping was used to harm innocent citizens, supposedly doing so in order to prevent the spread of communism. They bragged about how they were protecting our government from the soviets, yet at the same time, they were doing just as much harm. Similarly, in The Crucible, the judges are convinced that they are persecuting these citizens in order to protect the town from witchcraft, yet they are doing far more harm than any alleged witchery had done.
"New Broom"
This political cartoon have similar ideas with The Crucible that most people have their own reputation. Therefore those group doesn't want to lose their reputation or they could get fired and would have struggle life. Same things for the judges, and the people of Salem.
"wrong number"
In this cartoon it relates to the crucible because during the red scare the government tried to protect the people when they messed things up more then they should have and in the crucible the judges wanted to protect the people and them self's from something that isn't there and make a big deal out of it.
"Wrong Number"
In this cartoon the wire tab is cutting into American civil rights. This closely relates to Arthur Miller's The Crucible. The cartoon pictures how the paranoia of the US Government means that they are willing to sacrifice there citizens right to have more power. This is very close to the Salem witch trails. In these trails peoples paranoia got the best of them and the acted irrationally and violated peoples rights in hope to have more control over a situation. Both this cartoon Wrong Number and Arthur Miller's The Crucible have very similar meanings about peoples rights and authority infringing on these rights.
"New Broom"
The new broom political cartoon relates to The Crucible because the cartoon was referring to declaring actions and thoughts of people "un-american" during the Cold War at a time when communism was spreading and this similarly relates to the action of declaring people to be "un-christian" and practicing witchcraft. The cartoon itself also directly relates to witchcraft because the picture is of a witch riding a broom
“Wrong Number”
In this cartoon, A man in a dark suit is shown wire tapping into someones house. This was happening during a time when people in the United States were scared of communism and there was a movement to try and stop the growth of it. This directly connects with the Crucible, because the citizens of Salem were scared of witchcraft, and they went to excessive measures to stop it. The people of Salem also took measures that were immoral or wrong under their theocratic form of government. This relates to the cartoon, because the United States wiretapping peoples homes on suspicion that they were communists was very immoral and wrong. Both the cartoon, and Arthur Miller’s the Crucible illustrate how people are willing to do immoral things when fear is present.
Wrong Number
This cartoon illustrates the paranoia of the Red Scare that America experienced during the Cold War and how they took extreme measures to prevent it. They harmed innocent citizens in order to protect America as well as wire tapping. This relates to the Crucible due to the fact that they took obscene measures to protect the town of Salem just as America did by killing innocent citizens.
The cartoon connects with the events in the crucible because it shows how people can make things bigger than they need to trying to get out of trouble. The witch on the broom also relates to witchcraft. The cartoon shows how fear can make a lot of people do immoral things and act in ways people normally wouldnt.
The political cartoon connects with the Crucible by Arther Ash because it shows how Communism can con control a certain country. This was similar to the trials in the Crucible over witchcraft. People in Salem wanted more power just like people did in America. The women riding on the broom related to the girls and witchcraft.
¨Carry on Lads¨
This political cartoon relates to the main idea in The Crucible where people are put on trial with nothing more than an accusation. They were then forced into giving a confession whether it be true or not. This most definitley relates to what happened during the salem witch trials.
"Wrong Number"
This peace of art connects to the Crucible because they both show an art of being sly, secretive, and not trustworthy. In the peace of art, a man in a hat is wiretapping through a wall. He is trying to see of hear what others are doing. This connects to the crucible, because everyone is nosy, and want to know the unknown. Everyone in the town would do anything to find out the truth.
"Wrong Number"
The political cartoon connects to the story in many ways. First of all the time period in which the red scare took place is similar to the Salem Witch trials. Everyone in america was worried that somebody that they knew was a communist. And in the Crucible everyone is worried someone they know is a witch. During the Red Scare in an attempt to protect the citizens, the government spied and harmed their own. Similarly, in the Crucible, in an attempt to stop witchcraft in their town, the people go crazy and accuse each other of witchcraft. And as a result only hurt themselves.
“Wrong Number”
This political cartoon refers to a time in America referred to as the Red Scare. During this period of time, the people of america feared the spread of communism inside the United States. To counteract against the spread of communism, the United States government began “wiretapping” people who were suspected of being communist. Although it was difficult to prove innocence once suspected, the american people began to lose freedoms of privacy. Which directly relates to Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, because during the witch hunts in Salem, many people were suspected of being affiliated with the devil. Once suspected of being a witch, innocence was hard to achieve and society began to lose freedoms. The connection between the cartoon and The Crucible can be summarized as fear for becoming a suspect.
After looking through the Political cartoons, the one that stood out to me the most was "New Broom". This political cartoon relates to the Crucible in many ways. One way it connects to the Crucible is how it relates to peoples reputation. When someone has a reputation they usually tent to not want to lose it or have it changed, due to the fact that it can change their lives completely. This relates to the judge in the Crucible, as well as everyone in the court. This also relates to the Salem witch trials because it is a woman riding a broom.
Referring to the cartoon "Wrong Number."
The cartoon shows a pictures of a a man "wire tapping." This is supposed to the paranoia of wire tapping and the fear of communism in America during the cold war. This relates to the Crucible text because there was a mutual fee or paranoia at the time in America that people might be seen as a communist. No one wanted to be seen as a communist and those who might be seen as a communist were living in fear. This is similar to the state of mind that the people in Salem at the time of the Salem Witch Trials because they feared being accused of preforming witchcraft.
