I'm wanted dead or alive
And I ride, dead or alive
I still drive, dead or alive
Dead or alive [x4]
These are the lyrics from Dead or alive by Bon Jovi and they have lots of repetion in the lines of the song. This is only one little part of the song but they say Dead or Alive 7 times here. And this sort of carries the message of the song out and it doesn’t let you for get it.
“Doesn’t have a point of view
Knows not where he’s going to
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?”
These are some lyrics from Nowhere Man by the Beatles off of their Rubber Soul album and they exhibit rhyme. Rhyme is the correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, esp. when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry. They rhyme the ends of the first two lines, view and to are the words that rhyme. These lines are repeated twice in the song.
"...Essential yet appealed,
carry all your thoughts
across an open field,
when flowers gaze at you,
they're not the only ones
who cry when they see you..."
Boston by Augustana
This song shows not only a rhyme scheme, but also visualization and hesitation for a dramatic and sentimental meaning. This verse in particular has a very slow pace in the song, which relates back to the hesitation for dramatic effect. The rhyming is also used as a way to keep the flow of the song sounding smooth, and rhythmic, just like poetry.
"Hey, I just met you
and this is crazy
but, here's my number
so call me maybe"
These lyrics although not amazing in depth do show rhyme.

Hallelujah By Canadian Tenors:
Baby, I've been here before
I know this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
Seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
Its cold and it's a broken, Hallelujah
This some has rhythm, and it includes a few metaphors.
"don't be fooled by your emptiness, there's so much more room for happiness
don't be fooled by your emptiness, there's so much more room for happiness." -- (Kaskade Room for Happiness)
The song has the same rhythm throughout the entire song. It also includes repetition of this line before every chorus. The end of this repeated line also rhymes.
All along it was a fever
A cold sweat hot-headed believer
I threw my hands in the air, said, "Show me something,"
He said, "If you dare, come a little closer."
Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now, tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know.
These are some lyrics from Stay by Rhianna that are repeated throughout the song. The poetic term they convey is rhyme scheme. Which is the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse. The song uses this rhyme scheme so that the person listening to it can begin to remember and sing the words. Also with that they can begin to understand what the song is really about, the true message behind the words.
“Can you tell by the look in our eyes. We’re going nowhere. We live our lives like we’re ready to die. We’re going no where.” - BRING ME THE HORIZON This exhibits a poetry term because it expresses symbolism and a deeper meaning. To me it means everyone has a journey, everyone's been hurt but most end up going nowhere in life and remain stuck but the meaning can vary between people and that's what makes it poetic.
“Not even they can stop me now
Boy, I’ll be flying overhead
Their heavy words can’t bring me down
Boy I've been raised from the dead
Now my life is sweet like cinnamon
Like a dream I’m living in yeah
Baby love me because I’m playing on the radio”
-- Radio by Lana Del Rey
These lyrics exhibit many poetic terms. For instance, they have a simile, in that she’s comparing her life to cinnamon. Another is a metaphor, where she compares herself to someone who has died and is coming back to life.
"I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire
Exhale desire"
This song is "Car Radio" by Twenty One Pilots. It demonstrates poetry because it contains rhyming, and it uses a metaphor when he says his lungs fill with fire and exhale desire.
"Here I'm alive
Everything all of the time
Here I'm alive
Everything all of the time"
These are some lyrics from Idioteque by Radiohead and there is lots of repetition in this song to represent the importance and deeper meaning.
All though the song American Pie by Don McLean is full of symbolism and Literary terms there is one line that touches me the most. “And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed. But not a word was spoken; The church bells all were broken. And the three men I admire most: The father, son, and the holy ghost,They caught the last train for the coast. The day the music died.” This line covers the whole theme and overtone of the song. It is more of a depressing feel. The song also is an allegory and it it tells a story.
"Someday, I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me."
-Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
These lyrics are from Somewhere Over the Rainbow and they display poetic features. For example this excerpt uses a simile when it compares the melting of trouble to lemon drops. The excerpt uses strong imagery as well when he mentions sleeping on the clouds.
" I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
We could cut ties with all the lies that we've been live'n in
and if you never want to see me again i would understand."
This song has grown to be one of my favorite songs because of the message it puts across. Which is that everyone has a reason to live even if you don't feel like it there is something that you have to live for. Plus it has a little bit of rhyming in it at first you do really tell but you can hear if you really focus on it.

"Like a circle of light spinnin' out of control
And I just can't let go" - Def Leppard, Day after Day
These song lyrics symbolize the chaos of everyday life, and how we try to hang on, even though we are gradually loosing control.
"Get up, stand up: don’t give up the fight!”. It’s not over yet."
These song lyrics are by Bob Marley and they try to tell us to not give up because everything is possible if u have the heart to do it. These lyrics show repetition to show us the deeper thoughts in the song.

"I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves.
I keep my lamp lit, to warn the sailors on their way.
I'll tell a story, paint you a picture from my past.
I was so happy, but joy in this life seldom lasts."
-The Lighthouse's Tale by Nickel Creek
Personification is clearly displayed in this song. They are telling a love story in the perspective of a lighthouse.
Success is a journey but we treat it like a place. People are caught up in what you have and what your image is. The material things. But success can come from anywhere, and it doesn't show in ones eyes a wealthy man would look more successful then a poor man but that depends on how you look at it, the poor man may have been happier and did what he wants too do and thats success in my mind. This can also relate to high school. if your popular you look better but it doesn't really matter if everyone likes you, if you never actually relate to people.
"It's a great day to be alive,
I know the suns still shinin' when I close my eyes,
There's some hard times in the neighborhood,
But why can't every day be just this good?
I love these lyrics by Travis tritt because they just remind me about all the really good days I've had in my life,
And this song makes me want to keep my head up

"Hoping one day you will make a dream last, and dreams come slow and go so fast." These are lyrics from Let Her Go by Passenger. The song has rhythm and it repeats Let her Go for effect. It's a love song and I like it because its a powerful good quality song.
Another mission, the powers have called me away
Another time to carry the colors again
My motivation, an oath I've sworn to defend
To win the honor of coming back home again
No explanation will matter after we begin
Unlock the dark destroyer that's buried within
My true vocation, and now my unfortunate friend
You will discover a war you're unable to win
Indestructible By Disturbed
Although this song does not exhibit much in means of poetic devices, it does appear to have a profound rhyme scheme.
Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?
Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what mean
These lyrics are by Panic! at the Disco, Nine in the Afternoon. This song references a place as a symbol for the beginning of something new and exciting. It incorporates many images and motifs which are left to the listener to decipher. The song also uses rhyming. The song does not have a specific rhyme scheme, but it does incorporate internal rhyming and certain ABAB patterns of rhyming.
My favorite song right now is Youth by Daughter. I like this song because of it’s lyrics, and the beat and flow of the music.
"And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs."
"And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone."
"And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone."
Those are just the main lyrics of the song that I really like. These lines of poetry do have rhyming endings in order to make it flow well. But at the end of sentences that don’t rhyme with the line before, is used for a dramatic ending. Almost as if it was just stopped suddenly, and that is used to create a feeling inside the listener or reader.
