The Appendix/Act II Scene 2 greatly impacted my understanding of the drama and John and
Abigail. It made me think very differently of the two characters because I did not expect them to have had relations. I also didn't expect John Proctor to act this way towards Abigail. I think it should be included in each production/reading of the drama because it has vital information that changes the plot of the story.
I think that this appendix should be performed in most if not all versions of "The Crucible". It definitely gives a lot better understanding of the two characters, and both how much Abigail wants to be with John, as well as how far John is willing to go to save his wife. He says on page 142, “I come to tell you, Abby, what I will do tomorrow in the court. I would not take you by surprise, but give you all good time to think on what to do to save yourself.” He’s referring to telling everyone that she and him had an affair, because he thinks it will save his wife, and Abigail is not happy with him. He says, “If you will have it so, so I will tell it!” He’s really passionate about saving his wife.
The Appendix from The Crucible during Act II Scene 2 impacts my thematic understanding of the drama and its characters because it shows how both John Proctor and Abigail Williams' personalities change when they're just in each others' presence. It shows a softer side of John Proctor as he tries to relate with Abigail, while at the same time it shows him begging for her cooperation to free his wife. This appendix scene also brings more light to Abigail's true character seeing as her personality has been changing throughout the whole play so far. The appendix shows Abigail's darkness and highlights her manipulative personality that shows that she is only interested in getting what she wants, and getting away with it. Above all, this appendix reveals some important information about the true happenings during the night in the forest, and also about the secret relationship between Proctor and Abigail, and for those reasons I believe that the appendix should absolutely be included in every reading/ play.
The appendix in the crucible is, in my eyes very important because it's the only scene we see where some of the information is boarded up by lies. This is the Only act in the play where there are no lie and people are strait up talking about what happened. When Abigail and John do talk about this it shows how much and how far John will go to save his wife. It also shows how much Abigail wants to be with John and how far she is willing to go to be able to do it. I do think this should be part of the play because it cleared up a lot of things for me that were going on in the play.

The Appendix showed how all the feelings between John Proctor and Abigail were totally demolished. Abigail shows how she still wants John but John finally makes it very clear that he loves his wife and not her. This crushes her spirits of ever becoming Johns future wife and she makes having Goody Proctor dead her number one priority because if she can't have John, no one else can.
The appendix narrowed the reading so that I could focus more on specifically what was going on in this section of the play. It helped me gain more insight on the relationship these two characters, and realize exactly what has been, and what is going on between them. I think it should be included for every scene because it helps to just narrow the amount one must take in and helps people understand the scene better.

If they would have kept this in the act the play would have been much shorter. Proctor is pressuring Abby to tell the truth in the appendix. I think they took it out just so they could create an elaborate last couple of acts.
The Crucible Appendix helped to impact my thematic understanding of the drama and its two major character John and Abigal by letting me get to know Abigal’s motive and mindset better. The whole Appendix helped me to understand Abigal’s motivation to get rid of Goody Proctor in order to have John. I do believe it should be included in the original production of the play because it would help other readers get to know the character of Abigal and see what her intentions are for calling and framing people for the act of being witches. Abigal before had developed feelings for John and wishes to get rid of his wife; “Abigal- No, this is your wife pleading, your sniveling, envious wife! This is Rebecca’s voice, Martha Corey’s voice. You were no hypocrite!” (pg. 142). Through out the appendix is becomes easier to see that Abigal has indeed been lying this whole time about the witch trials in order to get what she wants. It becomes very apparent to Abigal has been a bad person the whole time while John and the other towns folk have become victims to her games/lies.
The appendix in is very important to show interaction between John and Abigail when they are alone, also it shows that there is something between them that is suspicious or can effect things in their lives. It thickens the plot and makes more controversy.
The appendix does impact the way we see the characters because the main character Abigail and john because john wants to live a normal life and ultimately save his life, “if you do not free my wife tomorrow, I am set and bound to ruin you, Abby.” On the other hand Abigail wants to live with john and be his wife but, she can only do this if she kills his wife ,”Abigail would ever so a murderous deed,” and she pretty much says she will kill his wife. I think it should because it gives the reader a new look into Abigail’s eyes. Thus, truly show what kind of monster she really is.
I think the Appendix is helpful because it adds to the drama of the scene and kind of takes us behind the scenes. It shows a different side of Proctor and Abigail, with out it you have to kind of assume things about how Abigail and John acted towards each other.I think an Appendix would be helpful to have for each production to add to the drama and to give more information.
I think that the Appendix helps us realize that Abigail had been pretending the whole time, and that she is a liar. All she wants is for John to love her, and for him to leave his wife to die. She is manipulative, but John can only think about the fact that Abigail accused his wife of hurting her. I think it should be included in all the plays, because it gives the audience more information about Abigail and how she is in love with Proctor, and it reveals how far she will go to get him. The Appendix gives the audience a good look at Abigail’s evil side, and it gives them a good reason to dislike her.
I think that the Appendix helps me understand The Crucible a little more than before. It shows more of who John and Abigail are and what their relationship is like. I don’t think that it needs to be in every production, I feel that if I didn't know about it I would still understand the text. Its important but not needed.
To me the appendix finally showed the truth between people in the Crucible. In the Crucible it is rare that people communicate honestly without over exaggerating or stretching the truth. Also John proctor finally is straight up with Abigail and tells her that he is in love with his wife. The appendix shows the relationship between two characters and what has been going on between them.
I think that the appendix helps give some background information. It shows a deeper connection between John Proctor and Abigail than that which has been shown before. I think this should be included in every issue of the Crucible.
The Appendix in act two, scene two gave me a better understanding of who John Proctor really is and showed me a different side of him as he tries to relate with Abigail. The Appendix shows the true side of Abigail's character. This should have been a part in the play because this cleared up the confusion that I was having with the play.
The appendix act two scene two has a very subtle impact on the play and I believe it should be put in to all versions of this text. The scene shows adds to the relationship of two of the main characters John Proctor and Abigail Williams. It shows how they have a complex relationship and the feelings that Abigail has towards Mr. Proctor which becomes fuel for some of the issue that occur later in the play. In this scene it becomes apparent that the two have had love relationship in the past. “What will you tell? You will confess to fornication? In the court?” This Scene in the play should be included in all of the versions of this text because it helps show the complex love relationship between two of the main characters in the play that leads to a lot of issues and conflicts later in the play.
The Appendix from The Crucible should be included in each production and reading of the drama because it adds a new, truthful aspect to the actions/personalities of the characters. It mainly shows John Proctor's intent of saving his wife and Abigail's manipulative nature; she only works hard to get what she wants and always changes the story around different people so it will benefit her in the most possible way. They change the way they act because they are away from the rest of the village's judgement and accusations. This side of the play informs the audience on the nature of these two significant characters.
Act 2 of the crucible I think, shows the reader the relationship between John and Abigail. They both at one point thought of themselves as victims of witchcraft, but John changed his mind very quickly when he learned that his wife was in danger. Abigail pins the whole blame on the lady at the beginning of the play, so their relationship is trying to pin the blame on someone else.
Act II scene 2 of the Crucible may be beneficial to the understanding of John Proctor and Abigail, however if the crucible would have left out this act it would not degrade the quality of the text because their characters are revealed elsewhere in the text as well. in other words not essential.
In Act ll scene 2 I believe the appendix tells the reader/audience a lot about Mr.Proctor's and Abigail's relationship. As soon as the scene opens the first line Abigail says is "How do you come?" Which to me conveys that they have liked each other before but also buy have also been in bad standings with one another. The whole scene shows that Abigail's efforts have all between towards forming a relationship with John. " I will make you such a wife...... A light of heaven in your house." Shows how crazed Abigail is for John in which she has already thought about being his wife. I believe this should be in the text because it shows the tension between the two at the end and would help the reader best understand how they see each other from that point on. " You will tell the court you are blind to spirits; you cannot see them anymore, and you will never cry witchery again, or I will make you famous for the whore you are!" This is my favorite line from John because it shows how fed up he is with Abigail and her lies. Which truly shows how he feels about her.

Act two scene two of "The Crucible" portrays the true nature of John Proctor and Abigails relationship. It gave me insight on the motivation behind Abigails actions in lying and pretending that Goody Proctor is a witch and is to blame. It surprised me how differently she acted when she wasn't in public. Although she still acted like she didn't know of his wife being put on trial she was more honest . The appendix also helped me understand how significant their relationship was: "Oh, John, I will make you such a wife when the world is white again." Before reading this I found it hard to believe that they had a relationship. But after reading this I had a better understanding of the predicament Proctor was in. This should definitely be part of the play so that the reader knows the fire that has driven Abigail to the point she's at.

I don't think it's really important to the Crucible but it does help understand what happened between John and Abigail. There was obviously something between the two that effected the Proctors. It shows that Abigail wants to be with John and wishes to get rid of his wife by accusing her of witchcraft.

The appendix for Act II in the crucible has one main purpose:to strengthen our understanding of the relationship between John and Abigail. While it certainty does this, and gives a bit more background to the situation, it also changes the rest of the play in ways that might not be beneficial.
The appendix for The Crucible is in my opinion essential to the understanding of the play. It helps develop the complex relationship John Proctor and Abigail. It gives us a background and an understanding of Abigail's actions later in the play like accusing Elizabeth Proctor of certain crimes. It should be included in each production or reading whether it is given to the audience in a hard copy form or spoken on set. It just gives a deeper understanding of some of the actions in the play.
