The primary focus of Puritanism was that god is the center of everything. All of life is devoted towards obtaining a pious existence, even if it is not certain that you will achieve the afterlife with god. The simple clothes reflected the Puritans' thoughts that the spiritual was more important than the physical. Their writing mirrored that of biblical literature, often being straight forward and concrete.
Unfortunately, the piety of the Puritans, at more than one occasion, caused conflict. The Salem Witch Trials, for example, proved to the world the consequences of an overly-zealous faith.
The Puritans embodied the idea of religious extremism.
The core concept and belief behind Puritanism is that life should be as simple and pure as it was back in the days of the bible. They don't believe in having excessive worldly possessions and showing vanity. The believe in a simple life, a life devoted to serving God.
For example the clothes that the wear are very plain and boring. They do not believe in dressing up nice and fancy because they feel it shows to much vanity.
There simple and plain lifestyle often caused problems throughout the new world. The best example is the Salem Witch Trials. They had such a literal interpretation of the bible, that when people acted differently than the bibles says, they considered them to be a witch.
Overall the Puritans were a plain and simple people that often took the interpretation of the bible too far.
The Puritans really expressed their beliefs in God. They wanted The United States to be honest, Just, Pure, and happy. They did not want people to be heretic, which is believing and acting unusual.
The primary focus of Puritanism in my opinion was to show us how the world has changed since the Puritans were in America. Our country is way more advanced and people aren't very religious like they were. God needs to be more a focus in our nation. It would help prevent problems too. The Puritans were had strong morals and beliefs in their lives.
The main focus of the Puritan life style is God. They believe that God is the center of everything that they do. Everything from their writings to their daily life revolved around God. They viewed God as a very simple deity therefore everything that the Puritans did was simple. There clothing, life's, sermons, church reading, and food were all every simple.
In the end the puritan lived simple life's that focused heavily on God
The basis seen in puritan eyes is the development and relationship with who they see as there god. They feel that its of great importince to work hard in day to day life as a way of reassuring the basic ideas of salvation. In the article "Still Puritan After all These Years", the author discusses that as Americans we still value the idea and work ethics dempnstrated by early puritans. We are still a god fearing people and intrust our fates into his hands.
In Puritanism the main focus is God. Everything about the puritan way of life is about God. Even the way they dress is to make God happy for hope of a bountiful harvest. Their writing followed the story of God and everything he did in order to help people.
For example when a bad event happens they blame them selves then spend a large quanity of time worshipping God in order to please him.
To conclude they are an example of religious extremists.
Puritanism focused on good values and living life focused around god. Everything they did was to please god because they feared if even just one person could cause suffering on all of them. Puritans had lots of rules because of this fear and had harsh punishments. The puritans were strong believer and would go all out to prove a point like they did in the Salem witch trials.
The puritans also shaped todays america. money with statements like in god we trust to the way we feel is the best life to live. As extreme as the puritans were they did leave behind some great things.
The puritans put all of their focus into god, every man women and child had to read the bible and if they didn't people though they were worshiping the devil. Like their cloths it was plain and they tried to do everything to make their god happy. They spent their afternoons studying the bible and they felt that they were chosen by God for a special purpose and that they must live every moment in a God-fearing manner.
I think that they were very plain and they took the idea of god and the bible too far.
The primary focus of Puritanism focuses on salvation or becoming closer with god. They believed that their fate with god was predetermined, they believed that everyone was born sinful, only a select few were chosen for salvation. They essentially believed that God was above all, this was reflected in their simple lifestyles and straightforward writings. They interpreted the bible literally which caused certain problems, they worked hard for success, but under the puritanical beliefs, they never enjoyed that success. It is important to study the puritans because a lot of aspects of our modern lives were influenced by their beliefs.
The Puritan life had strictly about their religious about the bible. The reason they left European is not bad idea because they want to have rights to worship their God, I would understand how they feel because I believe same God with them but it has more like Christian. The Puritan people had more ideas about how to live in a new world like new land, new things, new food, and new live. My opinion about Puritan is that they are strict about their religious and worship their God everyday.
Puritanism is a belief that returning to religious roots is the most important thing, that things should be as they were at the time that the bible was written. There have been puritans weaved throughout history, trying to change the way that society progresses back to how it used to be. The affects of the puritan lifestyle would be heavy today, because our society has changed so much. Puritanism has been surrounded in a cloud of conflict because it is nearly impossible with modern advancements to be truly puritan so they are often viewed as hypocritical. By modern I don't necessarily mean today, it could mean a few hundred years ago, but it is all relative to when the bible was written.
The biggest aspect of the Puritanistic lifestyle was that God and religion was what they abided by. Many aspects of their lifestyle are represented in the modern lifestyle now such as Protestant work ethic, the idea that work is a calling from god, success is a sign of salvation, and that hard work and good deeds bring rewards in life and after. Their lifestyle didn't flow seamlessly by any means especially during the times of the Salem Witch Trials. Religion is an often conflicting topic especially when it comes to how to live your life. Us modern Americans have limited the use of religion in our schools, and it is not required to go to church.
The central Puritan belief is in a life as holy and biblical as is possible, to a very religious extremist extent. Their beliefs, such as that of salvation, could prove to be highly disagreeable, and they conflicted with others in events such as the Salem Witch Trials.
However, the Puritans had a major role in the formation of modern America and society, as is evident in our currency, stating, "in god we trust".
The main focus of the puritan lifestyle is to make life as simple as possible. Puritans worship the bible and use it everyday in their lives. When I think of puritans, I think of Amish people. They live life very similarly by making everything simple. Puritans are devoted to god and worship him everyday. If something happens to them they thank god no matter what it was. They believe god is in charge of everything that goes in their lives. They are very religious. I disagree with some of the beliefs of the puritans. I don't think a god is in control of everything that happens. I think people are in control of what happens.
The Puritans believe that God is the creator and source of life. They live their life serving God even though they believe that only the "chosen ones" reach salvation. They also believe that every person is born sinful because of Adam and Eve. They wore simple clothes because of their belief that the spirit was more important than the physical part of a human. They had the idea of religious extremism and their writing reflected that.
Throughout the Puritan Friday and Monday stations we experienced many different aspects of Puritanical lifestyles. I learned that the main idea of their thinking is revolved around God. There God wanted them to live plain and simple lives so they can be closer to him.
The Puritans depended on religion which really created their society.
The Puritans really focused on the idea that God is the center of their world. They lived a very simple life, for that is what they believed that their God wanted them to do. Everything they did was revolved around God.
Puritans rejected excess and denied themselves of comfort as a sacrifice for their god.The ideals behind Puritanism deeply contrast those of modern Christianity. Modern Christians depict their god as merciful and loving where Puritans view their god as a harsh tyrant who controls all. Everyone exists solely for his mere enjoyment, they are born a sinner, and they will die a sinner.
Based on what I saw and read, the primary goal of Puritanism was to create a fear of God. The Puritans created a society in which people behaved a certain way based on their fear. I believe that if all you teach is fear and hate then those things are the only products. I would say that some horrible things such as the Salem Witch Trail came out of Puritanism. Puritanism creates a darkness and fear around everything they do, and I think that is a hard way to live.
The primary focus revealed about Puritanism can best be described as a complete and modest dedication to God. Evenmore so, many of the Puritanistic beliefs rely on faith with God. These beliefs are what shaped early american life and culture. In the eyes of a puritan, everyday should be spent growing in faith and spiritual humility. Simplicity is what the puritans strove to achieve Even in today’s world, many of these early american beliefs are still visible.
I'm sorry, but all that I learned about Puritans is that they seem obsessed with God and religion. There is honestly nothing I learned that can't be summed up with that one sentence, and nothing so complex that it really needs to be expanded upon further. I understand that I should try to write more, but anything else that I write would just feel like writing what you want to read as opposed to my actual thoughts. Even if I could avoid doing that, I would still just be filling the page with random BS that I twist to sound insightful.
The main idea of Puritanism is that being pure, and living by God is the most important thing a person could do. In the article the class read during station four stated that when you look at America today, we still have Puritan thoughts/ideas/beliefs. Although, I would disagree with what I have witnessed with kids my age and even the actions of some of the adults that surround me. Overall, the puritans came to America wanting to live by go and to live purely and happily and although I disagree with most of their religious beliefs, I can agree that living in such a way might be "right."
The Puritans believed God was the center of everything and every moment of their life should be devoted to him. The puritans believed in a simple life and to be loyal and honest with God. I think in today's modern society, people are the exact opposite of the Puritans. We live extremely complex lives filled with worry and stress. I feel like we don't spend enough time being devoted to God because we are more worried about things like grades, jobs, and friends.
