In the song "On the Grind" by the hip hop artist Nelly the lines..."Now if gonna ride get ya side let's roll..." Give reference to the loyalties and rough groups or"gangs" of st.louis where he is from. This is an example of symbolism or it could also be a metaphor.

Let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm
That will not forsake me, till my tale is told and done
While the fire lights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow
Till things we've never seen will seem familiar

This is just the first verse of the 19 page poen, Terrapin Suit, better know as Terrapin Station, (lyrics; Robert Hunter, Music; Jerry Garcia) commonly played by the Grateful Dead ths song while being one giant metephor for lots of things is a far more complex poem than I can even fathom you can find the entire poem on this site

High above the mucky-muck, castle made of clouds,
There sits Wonderboy, sitting oh so proudly.
Not much to say when you're high above the mucky-muck.
Yeah, yeah.
Tenacious D- Wonderboy

This song is obviously a free verse with a metaphor. I think the metaphor means that we all have places to go to get away from the horrible muck of life on earth.

“Although you’re stuck with beans, there’s money in your jeans when you pretend, the wolf that’s at your door is not there anymore when you pretend” -From the film Artists and Models with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

The beans are a metaphor for a rather meager income, while the wolf at the door is a metaphor for many of the problems that come with life. The summary of the song is that life can seem much better and all your problems can melt away if you can just pretend.

This is an excerpt of a German song and I try to translate it:
"Hello, hello, I'm your earworm, and I'm stuck in your head and will never go away!"

An "earworm" is a metaphor for a song that is stuck in your head, and throughout the song the band describes how they experience a lot of different things and always have that song stuck in their head.

In the song "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessionals the lyrics..."Watch you spin around
In your highest heels
You are the best one
Of the best ones
We Aloo Look Like We Feel, you have stolen my heart."

This is an example of symbolism because it shows love really exists in couples. It is a deep meaning full song that can be prarphrazed on how people view it.

In the song "Enemy" by Drowning Pool, the lines " Make me sick till i can't breathe, never want to be your enemy, silence me, so i can't be" represent a struggle between two people who are fighting about something and the easy solution to it sounds like they are going to kill eachother. This is an example of Dramatic Monologue

"If you be my star ill be your sky
you can hide underneath me and come out at night.
when i turn jet black and you show off your light.
i live to let you shine.
i live to let you shine. you can sky rocket away from me, and never come back if you find another galaxy, far from here with more room to fly.
just leave me your star dust to remember you by."
this part of the song birds and boats by gregory snd the hawk says that she holds a loved one and will let them shine in her darkest moments. she is also saying that she will let the loved one go when they are ready to go, yet they have to leave her something so she can remember them.

In the song "I want it that way" by the backstreet boys one of the lines in the song is "you are my fire my one desire". This line is an example of a metaphor, the word fire is used to show the passion and burning desire that the backstreet boys feel for whatever girl or girls this song is written about. Fire and desire is also an examply of rhyme.

In the song "Vans" by The Pack the line "Got my vans on but they look like sneakers" this is a simile because it compares the vans to the sneakers.

"When your will is broken
When it slips from your hands
When there's no time for joking
There's a hole in the plan"
Music by Nelly Furtado
Song Say It Right

'When your will is broken' could possibly mean that your heart could be broken. 'When it slips from your hands' could show imagery that the heart that was broken possibly from line could actually slip away from yours hands now that the heart is broken. 'When there's no time for joking' means perhaps that there are no jokes this time it could be for real. 'There's a hole in the plan' might suggest now that since the heart has been broken and has slipped away with no hope of being returned that there had always been that hole and now you can't return. Just from the little expert of the song you can see imagery and symbolism.

"I need you like a heart needs a beat."- Apologize by Timbaland ft. One Republic. This line is defined as a smilie because it includes the word "like" to compare two items: needs and the heart.

In the song "I remeber" by hip hop artist Keyshia Cole..She says...

I remember when my heart broke.
I remember when I gave up loving you.
My heart couldn't take no more of you.
I was sad and lonely.
I remember when I walked out.
I remember when I screamed I hated you.
But somehow deep inside I'm still loving you.
I'm sad and lonely.

This verse of the song right here represent rhythme and rhyme of a women singing about having a broken heart.

The lyrics by Whitney Houston, “I hope life treats you kind. And I hope you have all you've dreamed of. And I wish to you, joy and happiness. But above all this, I wish you love.”

I like these lyrics because they present hope and whishing in the world among others in life. Always loving life if the best part of life and you should always live your life to the fullest. Have no regrets, forgive and forget. Live, laugh, love. It’s life!

In the song "Snow" by Red Hot Chili Peppers the verses, "Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder where it's so white as snow,
Finaly divided by a word so undecided and there's nowhere to go..."
"Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed and there's nowhere to go."
These verses show theme and symbolism such as the the artist is talking about escaping and starting over. This may also show a simile.

"You're still a part of everything I do, you're on my heart just like a tattoo,
Just like a tatto, I'll always have you."
-Jordan Sparks, Tatto

These lyrics exhibits a simile because she says that the person she is talking about is like a tattoo. Saying that he will always be there.

East to the West

"Jesus can you show me just how far the east is from the west
‘Cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been, Rising up in me again, In the arms of Your mercy I find rest,‘Cause You know just how far the east is from the west, From one scarred hand to the other"

In the Chorus written by Casting Crowns there is a perfect example of symbolism. The Band is implying that they want Jesus to show them how far the East is from the West. They then state the east to the west is from one scared hand to the other. The symbolism is in the verse "one scared hand to the other" because really their is no distance it just goes on and on. They are also saying that the East to West was God's hands when he was on the cross being crucified. Also they use ryhme with the words "been" and "again" as well as "rest" and "west."

"Her brother's smart he's got more sense than many
His patience's long but soon he won't have any
To find a job is like a haystack needle
Cause where he lives they don't use colored people
Living just enough, just enough for the city"
-Stevie Wonder, Living For The City

The line "To find a job is like a haystack needle" is a simile because it's comparing finding a job to finding a needle in a haystack, using the word like.

"Can you explain to me now?
If you're still able, well
It's time I think you know the truth
There's a hole in the Earth
I'm out"
Deftones-Hole in the Earth

The Earth is a metaphor for the band. When this song was written the band was considering spliting up and this song was a way for the leader singer to desribe what he felt about the band to the other band members.

Stopped to have a few at five now youre crossing that center line for the third time
Second time like this this week had a friend ask you for your keys
You said no Im fine
You sure do act like you dont got a thing to lose
But every car you pass might be the ones you take with you

This is giving refrence to a metephor as he describes not to drink and drive. It also is a metephor descrbing you dont know what you have until its gone.

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
The other on my heart
I look around, turn the radio down

This is the beginning of the song "Our Song" by Taylor Swift. The part where she says "He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel The other on my heart" this is an example of a metaphore because he can not really have his hand on her heart. What she is saying is that he has her and does not need to try anymore. This is a very good song.

I the song Big Girls Don't Cry, by Fergie, she says "And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket, but I've gotta get a a move on with my life" she uses the child missing their blacket as a metaphor to how she is going to miss him but she has to move on with her life. The blanket is like a comfort level that she has to let go of and move on with life.

And in this perfect weather
Well find a place together
