A Severe "Thinking" Test

What are your parting thoughts regarding The Crucible and how it challenges readers to think?

The Crucible was an interesting read, and I enjoyed reading it. I’m not a big fan of analyzing any book, so I didn’t enjoy that part of it that much. It does make one wonder though, could something like that happen again, and if so, what could it be about? Most likely something we haven’t even invented or discovered yet. It’s a never ending cycle – I hope I’m not around when it happens again.

The Crucible is hard to read but then again it is a play not a book, so it is meant to be heard and watched. When I did start to understand it after analyzing the acts then it is an interesting story in history. I agree with Sara in thinking that it’s scary to think that might happen again. I wonder if I will be blind and not really see what's going on. I hope I will be able to see when everyone goes mad.

I think it was interesting to read that story, just to see how people believed everything they were told or didn't act against it as they knew it was wrong.
And I also agree with saraz and courtneyj, that we should be aware that something like that could happen again.

The Crucible was something different for class reading. I have never read anything like it before in a school class room. It made my mind wonder in many ways. If put in to the situation of John or one of the other people in the town, you wonder what you would have done. The book also gives new perspective on the way people acted in times of fear.

I really enjoyed reading the crucible. It had several fantastic messages in it and it gave quite an accurate portrayal of society and it's reaction in a threataning or unkknown situation. The ending was rather unfortunate, it left me with a sick feeling, but it was also quite a powerfull ending because it showed that even if almost everyone thinks something is wrong there are those who find right and stand for their beliefs. I hope that if I ever come across a situation like that, that i will be able to stand strong in my beliefs and my truths.

The Crucible was defintely interesting to read. I wasn't into the deep analyzing though. I think it was a good story to read and it does make me wonder how something like that actually happened and how people could believe that or whether they made it up to get attention. On the other hadn it could happen to us now but I think our country would look into the problems a little bit deeper and find actual evidence of things like this happening not just randomly blaming people for the things happening. Also I think it challenges readers to think becuase it gives you most of the details and not every little bit of info so it leaves readers to fill in the spaces with what they think. It's a very interesting story all around and i enjoyed reading it and wondering what would happen next in it.

I thought The Crucible was interesting, I find it hard to believe that something like this could actually happen and personally I believe that in our world today society would allow something like this to happen again. However, Arthur Miller wrote this book to point out the similarity of the Salem Witch hunt to McCarthyism, which happen in the 60's.

I think that the crucible challenges readers to think about Salem and how it applies to our real world. The crucible forces us to ask questions and also learn from the mistakes that people made in Salem.

I think the crucible was an interesting look into a mans views of the mind set of public in both the McCarthy trials and the Salem trials. I think that the man knew a lot about the things fear does to a society. it also shows how a single entity should never have complete control over a society over all I think it was a good play but it really in lacked the complexity I like in books in was a rather simple message that go straight it the point, but in my opinion it was a good thing because he most likely wanted the message to get though to as many people as possible.

i think The Crucible is definitely a challenging read, but like Courtney said, it helps when it is being acted out for you. For me personally, I didn't always catch what was going on, but listening to the tapes helped me. You could hear the tone of voice and the different speakers. I think that without those, I would have had a much harder time understanding what was going on.

The crucible was a pretty interesting play. It was entertaining listening to the tapes because it gave us sense of how the characters were really feeling by their tone. Without the tapes it would be somewhat boaring and difficult becuase you would be just reading characters lines and there would be no narration. I thought it has a good moral to it and was easy to understand what was going on throughout it. I also agree with what people said above that it would be pretty scary if it could happen again with something similar to that and i think in some cases it already has.

The Crucible was a good story we read. It was challenging in that the way it was worded made it hard to read. I think it was difficult to understand all the relationships in the story and what some of them had to do with the plot line. The other thing I didn't understand was why Abigail disappeared at the end of the story and not towards the middle of the story, when they all started getting a lead on what was actually going on. I like in the end though, that John Proctor dies because he knew that he didn't do anything wrong and that Mary Warren was only saying that to get rid of him and Elizabeth.

The Crucible, not only interesting but a horrifying read. I have never been more scared as to see how people can be decieved and even though this event happened back then, McCarthyism is the same thing and in modern day! I hope that we as American's don't really have to face this happening again and if it does appear again, do you think we will be able to stop it?

the crucible made you think about how different of a world we live in now. the people in the town of slamen belived that people were sending there spirts out on other people. ot is also a hard read because it is a play. as the story goes on you begin to understand more and more about the trials. i think it was a good read because we got to listen to it on tape and it is one of the better readings in the book

The Crucible was an interesting read, because it involved girls of our own age it seemed. It is odd that people believed this girls enough to kill people, and it made me realize how much different the court system is now. I do not agree with saraz because i don't think something like this could happen again. Our courts are much more sophisticated now, and we don't hang people anymore. I enjoyed this Play, but I do wish we could have watched more of it so we could understand it even better!

The Crucible was definitely a difficult and challenging read. It was tough to make connections to todays world because it happened during such a different time period. The vocabulary and format of the play also made it hard to follow at times.

The Crucible to me was not a good read. why i think this is because im not into READING plays. For me, I have to SEE the play and watch it, thats why its a play. But it does leave readers thinking. I know that when i was done reading i just wanted to know why the girls didnt tell the truth at the end? Why were they being so mean and harsh to everyone?

Although The Crucible is a good play to read it is probably hard for the average reader to understand the first time it is read through. But i think if read through a second time it can be understood. But in conclusion to what im saying The Crucible is a good "thinking" play and you possibly may benifit from it.

The Crucible is a great example of American Literature because not only is it based on actual events that occured in a part our country long ago. It also serves as an important message to society being that accusations and assumtions based on little to no evidence can lead a society into chaos. We can see an example of that today in the Iraq War. We also see an example of scape goating which seems to be a common theme in The Crucible. It makes you think about the world you live in today and if you can see any parralells with the story you may have first thought was simply rediculous.
